Lisbon and Algarve

Has anyone combined a mini break in Lisbon with a beach holiday in the Algarve? I was wondering if it was doable in one holiday, via public transport.
also what would be a good resort in the Algarve? Plenty to do but also scenic.
Thanks

We did them as separate holidays, but it's certainly possible to combine them.
Think about airports & transfers.
We had a hire car in the Algarve, so travelled around a lot. It was the most boring holiday we've ever had, very little to do.

Yeah we did alberfuira and then Lisbon, flew into Faro, spent a few days on the Algarve then got a two hour coach through to Lisbon. It was quite straightforward and we really enjoyed it. Flew out from Lisbon airport.

Actually think the coach was closer to three hours, but still felt less faff than airports. It's a pretty route in places too. Think there's a train that might be slightly quicker.

It's around 3hrs from Faro to Lisbon (and vice versa!) on the train so if you want a day trip you'll be spending a lot of time travelling. Probably better to do an overnight.

You can get a train from Lisbon to Lagos in the Algarve. Lagos is lovely, good beaches, restaurants and boat trips😊

Very little to do? That doesn’t sound very inspiring 😫

That’s a good shout, in via one airport and out via another. That sounds like a plan!

Why not have few days in Lisbon and then go to nearby Cascais to the west. It has sand beaches and quite calm water. Or Sebutal perhaps, across the bridge from Lisbon

Lagos looks our type of place! Would there be enough to keep a teenager happy?

I suppose it depends on the teenager. There are great boat trips, you can do organised day trips to slide and splash water park and Zoomarine. In the evening there are plenty of bars and restaurants in the old town or the marina. 😊

Why not just stay around the Lisbon area? Have done both as separate holidays and much preferred the Lisbon/Sintra/Cascais area and beaches.

Agree no need to go all the way to the algarve when the silver coast is so nice.

We stayed 35 mins South of Lisbon centre (over the bridge) and then drove in and out a few times for sightseeing and nights out. Then drove an hour north so still only about 30mins from Lisbon in a small place called Foz do Arelho. We went day tripping to Nazare (a very seaside beachy place probably an hour north of Lisbon) plus a walled town called Obidos. And some of the surfy beaches for wave jumping.

Would your teens enjoy surf lessons? there's a lot of good surf along that coast.

Beaches not great at Lagos but nicer beaches to either side of the town.

We flew into Faro, hired a car, drive to Lisbon for 3 days, then back to Alvor for 3 the Tavira for 4. Was a lovely holiday

dogandbonio · 26/04/2023 22:59

Why not just have a beach holiday nearer Lisbon? Plenty of lovely beach resorts.
