How did you feed baby in hotel room?

Hello,

We're going abroad with our will be 4yo and 4mo DC to an all inclusive hotel and I’m wondering what will be the best way to make up feeds for the 4mo in the hotel room.

The room has a fridge and a kettle but, I've heard horror stories about hotel room kettles so, this unnerves me a tad. What did you do or what do you recommend and also, are there any other must take baby items we will need as, this is the first time we've taken an infant abroad 😊

Thank you! X

Can you take a prep machine in luggage? Use bottled water (usually in the baby aisle for baby friendly ones)

FangedFrisbee · 26/04/2023 03:05

Buy Milton water sterilisation tabs and a plastic container to sterilise bottles etc,

Or just take a suitcase full of pre made ready to drink formula?

You could take a travel kettle if you're worried about the hotel one?

Is it going to be very hot? I dressed DS in UV swim tops even if no intention of going into the water as it was so much easier than trying to lather suncream on him.

Milton tablets and borrowed a large bowl from kitchen to sterilise bottles. Kettles - the boiled water will be totally fine, but you could just give it a thorough wipe and rinse with the Milton solution

Thanks for the replies!

Milton tablets and clip lock type tupperware box. You can get a tall box that fits about two bottles in which also becomes useful if you need to sterilise something on the plane.

DH packed both the perfect prep and the sterilizer as well as 7 bottles. 🙄

To be fair, it all worked pretty well when we got set up in the hotel room.

But we could have easily saved space and taken Milton instead. And fewer bottles. So much easier with fewer bottles!

Definitely email the hotel to see if there is anything they can provide, some are really baby friendly and may already have a steriliser / microwave etc.

Also depending on where you're going check if there are any local baby/ child equipment companies. We went to the Algarve when DS was about 6 months and we hired a few bits to save us taking the kitchen sink!

FiddlefigOnTheRoof · 28/04/2023 06:10

We brought ready made formula, bring sterilising tablets, big lock and lock. You can also buy plastic bags that you fill with water and use to sterilise - they aren’t too bad either.

The revelation for us was not to stay in hotel rooms but to rent apartments and air bnbs - no more splashing around cleaning bottles in a dinky hotel bathroom sink.

FiddlefigOnTheRoof · 28/04/2023 06:11

Some family hotels will also wash the bottles for you - but if they don’t remember to pack bottle washing stuff.

BlueisthenewGrey · 28/04/2023 06:26

Don't forget to check which water the hotel uses. Some are not suitable for babies. We go away next month to an all-inc, they confirmed the water is not suitable for bottle making, so will arrange for another brand to be available for me

BlueisthenewGrey · 28/04/2023 06:28

Also, I'm taking a small travel kettle and 2 nuby rapid cool for ease. (Didn't have these with my 1st but will be much easier this time)

GemmaFoster · 28/04/2023 06:29

We were able to order ready made formula from the Boots at the airport, after security which we collected prior to departure & was able to carry on plane. This was 13 years ago. Also took the one use pre sterilised bottles.

WandaWonder · 28/04/2023 08:39

Steriliser bag from memory, boiled the kettle like normal for powder mixed in with some ready made

rattymol · 28/04/2023 09:36

I just bought ready made.
