Hi all, I'm interested in hearing any experiences of women visiting Oslo solo. I've not done a trip as a single woman before and very excited! I'm looking at going in mid august. There's a chance some friends might be there but it's 50/50 so may well be on my own for the 3/4 days. Any must dos and must sees, anything I should be aware of being there on my own? Thank you!

Fab place and I’d say bril to visit solo.

grt the “ ordinary “ train from the airport not the specific “ airport to city “ one which is more expensive IIRC. check how public transport ticketing works now. We went a few years ago and I think we had to buy before we got in. Buses etc are always on time.

Take the “ ferry bus “ to the islands. Again pretty cheap. We went in the summer and it was sad that we didn’t have swim stuff as you could swim in the fjord it was so warm !

the museum peninsula is great. Don’t miss the Viking ships museum but the the folk museum , kintiki museum and the farm museum were great too. Oh and vilgeland park of course.

id love to go back.

any time for the Oslo Bergen railway too 🥰?

It's a great city! Beautiful and friendly.
I agree with the previous poster's tips.
I would also recommend the Munch Museum (Munchmuseet).
And also the Oslo Opera House, by the water. Beautiful, very modern building. And you can walk up on the roof! Great fun, at least I thought so when I was 25.
Happy travels!

You’ll be grand visiting solo. Check out the Visit Oslo FB page for loads of ideas https://www.facebook.com/VisitOslo
Have lived here for years and it is great, lovely in August. Take the metro to the forest, walk down the Aker river from Nydalen to the centre of town, National museum, ferries to the islands, Kontiki museum, Oslo Street food, Vippa, SALT for sauna and jumping in the fjord, MatHallen, award winning new library at Bjorvika next to the Opera House and a beach, Grønneløkka, Grønland markets, kayak rental at the fjord in the centre

@SkaneTos

Sorry for resurecting an old thread but id like to ask for recommendations for Oslo for next week. Im coming but will be on my own whilst my DH works during the day.

Are there any food tours or ferry trips that run in April? Thanks

Try to ensure that your flights fit with the timetable of the airport train service. I had a flight back that left Gardermoen at something like 7:30am and had to get a taxi, which was close to £200. Fortunately work was paying, but I felt very sheepish handing in the receipt.

Hello! No problem. I am far from being an Oslo-expert, but I have been there a couple of times and it was lovely.
I think VisitOslo is a pretty good website, and a good starting point.
https://www.visitoslo.com/en/

That website took me to this website, about boat tours in the Oslo fjord

https://brimexplorer.com/destination/oslo

I have not tried these boat tours, but they look nice. And it seems like they are available all year round. The Oslo fjord is really beautiful.

Like I wrote, I can recommend the Munch Museum, and also the Nobel Peace Center.
Good luck, I hope you will have a great time!
Maybe some other posters will turn up with some more advice and ideas.
