60th birthday celebration with elderly parents

DH turns 60 next year. We are planning on going away for a week or a weekend to celebrate. Fortunately both of his parents are still well and active. They are in good health but don’t walk great distances due to arthritis. They are both in their mid 80s. They travel in Europe a lot.

Would it be crazy to ask if they’d be willing to go to the Caribbean to celebrate their son’s birthday? I have my eyes on a large villa (with maid service) in Antigua for a week in February.

If they wanted to they could definitely afford to fly in business class. We would upgrade them with points if they refused. We are happy in economy on an 8 hour flight, and do premium on the way back.

How lovely that your DH’s parents are still alive and well, that sounds like a great idea.

Thank you- just a bit concerned that it’s a long way for people of that age. They took a ferry overnight to Spain recently, and often do a 5 hour flight so I feel 8 hours to Antigua might be OK for them.

I think it’s a long flight at their age. It’s up to them.

My parents are mid 70s and my dad has lots of mobility issues and they go to Antigua every year. Best to fly business or premium if they can. The only thing I will say is that it's quite far to go for a week. Could you go for longer? Or if you can't could they stay on for longer? Makes me the longish flight more worthwhile
