7-10 days in Egypt, would like to visit the great pyramids, river Nile (not bothered about doing a cruise just a boat trip would be good), valley of the kings, Temple of Luxor and Egypt museum and any other amazing things people may recommend! Can anyone who has been there advise?

Fly to Cairo, overnight there and spend a day at the Pyramids- make sure you also see the ships they found alongside them, go to the museum and possibly the great mosque and the bazaar.

Overnight train to Aswan. Philae Temple, the Unfinished Obelisk. Go back to Philae at night for the son et lumiere. Next day take short flight to Abu Simbel and spend the day there, back to Aswan.

Next day travel by boat to Luxor - it is great to do it on a felucca overnight. You can visit Edfu on some of these trips but sometimes it depends on security.

Arrive Luxor - then give yourself four days or so for Valley of the Kings/Queens/Nobles, Luxor Museum, Karnak, Luxor Temple complex, Hatshepsut’s temple, Esna. You have to go on to what we always call Luxor Time - getting up and out very early to avoid the heat then back midday or so to rest in the cool then go out again late afternoon/early evening. Hotel with pool very wise.

Either then go to the Red Sea for a couple of nights for snorkelling/r&r or return to Cairo to head home.

To be honest, I would do it with Exodus or Explore or similar sort of company that organises transport and hotels but gives you freedom to plan your own sightseeing but equally you can do most of it on your own.

  1. Fly to Cairo,
  2. Day 2- visit pyramids, can be done on day 1 depending on the flight times.
Day 3- Egyptian museum, Coptic Cairo Day4- fly to Aswan. Aswan dam and historical sites visit Day 5- Abu simbel ( don't miss it ) Day 6- Train to Luxor, visit Kanark temple same day Day 7- valley of the kings, Hatshepsut temple Day 8- another day in Luxor if you want Day 9- fly from Luxor back home or via Cairo

We went last Easter, this is our itinerary but we also went to Hurghada if you want to do snorkelling or diving

Have a look at a tour company to see what they do & then plan similar based on what you want to see & do. If you aren’t into diving skip the Red Sea & spend more time in Luxor for the history etc

I highly recommend discoveregypt.co.uk
They can tailor-make a package exactly as you want. All transfers are included, & guides for sight-seeing. Everything went very smoothly, & the cost is very reasonable.
