I'd love to know your recommendations for a family with 2 kids (10 & 13)....

Places to stay?
Things to do?
Things to see?
Things to eat?

Thank you 🙏

I think where you stay very much depends on which airport you’re flying into and what kind of holiday you want. If you haven’t booked anything, fly into Catania because I think the east is best for first time visitors and families.
We baked ourselves in Catania and used it as a base for day trips and a couple of beach days.
Taormina is gorgeous, but very touristy. My dc enjoyed the cable car
Mount Etna is a must-do. We did the cable car, Jeep tour and a few walks.
For the dc, there’s Etnaland which I was pretty impressed with actually!
Syracuse is a lovely city to wander around and has a great museum for kids - the Leonardo Archimede Museum, full of inventions and discoveries. My dc also enjoyed a boat ride from there.

We had a brilliant holiday in Cefalu.
It has a sandy beach with a strip of hotels along it, and the old town by a towering rock that you can climb.

The old town has narrow streets that are lovely to explore and loads of lovely places to eat. Most of the holiday makers are Italian so it felt like we were properly abroad.

The cannoli are to die for

Great tips thank you.
What is catania like?
Is it relaxing or super busy?
What's the beach like?

Cefalu had a nice beach. The sea swimming there was the best I have ever done.

I'd go back in a heartbeat. I absolutely loved it. It hasn't been Englishified. One day we went to a little restaurant off the beaten track and the owners were so thrilled to have some English visitors they kept giving us local delicacies to try (which we didn't have to pay for). The place felt properly Italian.

Watch the Anton and Giovanni programme, they travel around Sicily. Might give you some ideas.

I've booked for Taormina and Ortigia (Syracusa) in September. Not travelling with kids though. Then planning some days out from there. The Godfather tour, Mt Etna, maybe a trip to Aeolian Islands. Lots of historical stuff to visit.

Our holiday to Taormina was sadly cancelled due to covid. I still want to go there.
