Allocated Sunbeds?

Hi, just doing some holiday research and came across a place in Paphos that allocates Sunbeds to your room. This sounds like a wonderful idea and I wondered if people knew of anywhere else that does this? Obvs would prefer to stay somewhere that has plenty to go round all year and doesn’t have such scrambles for beds at 7am but this seems like a way round it!

I've never paid any mind to those who think a complimentary hire towel is some sort of reservation. unless someone is physically sat or lay on the sunbed, It is vacant, and I will simply move their towels off the beds.

Seems like a good idea in theory.
Only works of all sunbeds are in equally good spots. Also different people like their sunbeds in different places for different reasons. Families want next to the kids pool etc
Not sure how successful it would be in practice.

After our last holiday I’d love to book somewhere with allocated sun beds. The 8am bunfight when they unchained the beds each day was ridiculous.

What if they’re swimming?!

its quite obvious. I mean the text book clean dry towels placed on the sunbed before 9am. I'm not talking about when the mother is sat reading her book whilst 2 kids and husband are in the pool.

We stayed in poolside rooms here which have sunbeds on the terrace, so you are a few metres from the pool but have your own beds.

Have you ever found people get angry or do they just accept it?

I went to one place where they didn't have enough sun beds and they unchained them at 7am, but you had to be there by 6:30am to get close enough to ensure you could get some. Kids were blissfully unaware of all this of course!

Some hotel around Lake Garda do this, hotels, I understand, with largely German clientele

AllIwantforChristmas22 · 23/04/2023 14:28

A lot of beach hotels in Italy do this

MidtoLon · 23/04/2023 21:45

We stayed in hotel in Paphos that did this Alexander the Great hotel. It worked really well. You could choose which bed you wanted and if you realised there were better positions you could just go to the attendant and change it when one became free

eurochick · 23/04/2023 22:24

We've had it in high end hotels. It works well in my experience.

IAmLaughing · 25/04/2023 13:04

I have stayed at Alexander The Great, the sunbeds are very closely packed together , I did not find it very relaxing. We now stay at another hotel on the other side of Cyprus called Sunrise Beach, it also has the allocated sunbeds and is a lovely hotel on a beautiful beach, we go every year now, never go anywhere else, love it so much.

Weesiewoo · 25/04/2023 13:12

I just move the towels and claim the seat. I've never had a problem. I just play dumb and say the chairs were free.
Where I'm from saving sun lounges isn't really a thing , I find it hilarious. It's a spectator sport for me.

Olympic Lagoon Resort in Ayia Napa do this

Whammyyammy · 25/04/2023 18:25

Once stayed at a cheaper hotel where they would be up fron 6am to reserve sunbeds and argue over them all day.

Initially I found it hilarious to watch people doing this, but this quickly turned to embarrassment as it was only people fron the uk doing it.

One woman would reserve 6, and her and her husband were the only 2 there all day. Sometimes her adult/late teenage children would join them at 3pm.

Her towels disappeared one day, presumably binned by other guests, she was screaming and swearing for hours. No one gave sympathy.
