Easyjet - small group booked together. What happens if one can’t travel?

Does anyone know what happens with an Easyjet booking if the lead traveller (booker) can’t travel? I am involved in a trip with friends, so we’re not a family group. One of us may need surgery in the next couple of weeks and it’s not certain they’ll be fit to fly by our travel date. Are the flights/booking voided if the lead booker doesn’t check in on the outbound leg? We are relying on our own travel insurance policies so would need to claim separately if we can’t travel.

It depends on your travel insurance to start with eg was the possibility of surgery on the cards when you booked (even if they had just seen their gp about a slight problem) if that was the case you would be unlikely to be able to claim unless you had declared the medical condition.

Once you check in your tickets are individual so you can fly without the lead booking.

The condition is newly identified, so not declared but also not on the person’s radar at all when we booked.

Thank you, this was the crucial bit of info. The flights were quite cheap so the person would be willing to forfeit their flight so long as everyone else is still able to travel.
