Passport application - post office service - spelling mistake in name - what do I do?

I applied for a new passport for my 10 year old using the post office service yesterday. The email acknowledgment came through with a typo in her name This typo is also in the email sent to the person who is verifying her identity which makes me think it's in the whole application.

What can I do? We don't have a huge amount of leeway on this as we have booked a holiday in July. I'm so fucked off as I paid for this! (The Post Office guy copied everything from her existing passport ) (and yes I should have maybe double checked but I didn't!).

Oh bums op. That's annoying and I have had similar! I have two middle names and more than one nationality. One of my other passports cut off one of my middle names and when I went to renew my British passport they wouldn't do it as they had asked me to send all my passports from other countries, and they saw the discrepancy and said it would be like me having an alias Hmm

Anyway, the customer services people were so useless. In the end I just had to withdraw my application and get the other passport changed so I can re-do it.

It is annoying they messed it up at the post office as you paid for check and send

So I think withdrawing the application and putting a new one in on Monday is the way forward? The Post Office can pay for it! He definitely didn't ask me to check those details, just my name and DOB and passport number.

It is really annoying - I thought I'd removed all the stress from the process this time around. (I have form for very last minute, very expensive passport applications).

Have you spoken to them? Some things they will correct if you send in a letter. Check first. They were dicks about mine but you may be luckier

can you not write? I ask because I have a problem with writing for any length of time and would struggle with the application. Why didn’t you fill out the form yourself?

Oblomov23 · 22/04/2023 09:39

Are you supposed to go back to the post office and say the service they provided ie checking has failed?

NoSquirrels · 22/04/2023 09:40

Is it a first passport, or a renewal? If it’s a renewal I’d imagine it’ll get picked up anyway and the application rejected/held up. Give them a call.

Just to update on this in case anyone is having a similar experience. I did phone the passport office on the day I posted originally (it was a Saturday but the office is open on Saturdays) and on their advice, I wrote a letter to them explaining the error . (In fact it turned out the passport was still at the post office so I just put it in with the application)

I didn't hear anything and the new passport turned up last week - so 3 weeks after I sent the application.

I also discovered that there was a small window of the rest of the working day in which I submitted the application in which I could have amended the passport application online and it would have been ok.
