In the October half term are about £1k per person, does this sound about right?!

Where are you getting the quotes from? If that’s off the airline websites then that’ll be the price. Sounds like a lot though!

AstroPete · 21/04/2023 07:50

Yes directly from the airlines! London to Paphos. We’ve been living overseas for a decade so I haven’t got a great sense of the cost of flying out of the UK

Look at Larnaca and compare.

I used to fly Larnaca to Gatwick frequently and the price varied greatly (as I some days 10x more expensive than others)

But Cyprus is one of the few places "hot enough" in October for sun holidays.

Oakbeam · 21/04/2023 08:16

I have flights booked for August. From memory they were around £250 return.

I booked at the end of last year though and did notice that there was a huge variation in cost even within the same week.

Thank you, I’ll do a bit more research. We’re a family of 5 so I might need to come up with an alternative plan!

What are the dates? Which airports? Have you looked at Jet2, Easyjet, Ryanair etc from Luton and Stansted?

maranella · 21/04/2023 09:03

Flights to Paphos were always really expensive for Oct half-term. Pre-pandemic I remember them being about £700pp from E. Midlands, so £1k from London now is probably about right. We always fly to Larnaca and drive, because it's so much cheaper and the motorway is very good, so it's not onerous.

maranella · 21/04/2023 09:04

Check skyscanner @AstroPete as they compare all the available airlines and routes, although some airlines aren't on there (Jet2, for instance).

Thanks @maranella Larnaca brings it down a bit! We've not been before, is it best to have a hire car if we're planning to be based in Paphos?

Yes - as long as you want to explore. There is plenty to do in the mountains + Greek ruins, wine tasting, nice towns to go for lunch, etc.

If you're planning a week of lying by the pool and just pottering in Paphos you could get away with booking a transfer from Larnaca to Paphos and using taxis for any local journeys.

Driving is easy though and roads are generally good.

Oakbeam · 21/04/2023 17:53

If you are flying to Larnaca and staying in Paphos, compare the price of hiring a car vs transfers. A hire car will also give you the opportunity to explore further afield than Paphos.

Taxis are very expensive in Cyprus. Mind you, car hire is no longer the bargain it once was.

Try opodo - my dd recommended it to me and we’ve found so many cheap deals that way.
