HI, I've never been to Portugal. Which area of the Algarve has the best beaches and the nicer towns. Looking for something upmarket but also suitable for a couple of teens who would've to be able to walk to things.

I've stayed in Alvor a few times and it's lovely but had been thinking of staying in Lagos now the my children are in teenage years. The marina area is good and just seems to be a bit more for teens to enjoy.

Me and 16 yr old son went to Carvoeiro first week of Easter holidays, absolutely loved it, gorgeous views and walks.

OP, if you want warmer waters you could look into Monte Gordo and Vila Nova de St António. They're right at the border with Spain and have the best beaches in the Algarve - warmer sea, very tranquil water and miles of flat sand. They're less touristic than central Algarve and traditional character. From VNSA you can get a ferry to visit Ayamonte, which is a Spanish town. Really nice nature reserve surroundings too.

Dh and Ds arrived at Alvor Praia this morning, which is 5 star but a bit dated, part of the hotel is built into the cliff. ds2 and I are going in a couple of days. The beach is beautiful and the boardwalk into Alvor town is fab. Have already booked a day at the waterpark. And a parachute 🪂 jump for ds1. The restaurants and bars in Alvor are fab.
