France for Coronation weekend

We're planning to have a long weekend in France over the Coronation Bank Holiday weekend. We've booked the tunnel, but no accommodation yet. Does anyone have any recommendations for towns / areas within approx 3hrs drive of Calais? We have children aged 6 & 8. They enjoy museums & art galleries as well as the usual child activities. Thank you!

Giverney is lovely for Monet's garden and the house is like a museum.

Fontainebleau is also good but further.

Chantilly is a nice town with chateau and tea rooms.

Bruges is also lovely though obviously not France.

Rouen is lovely. The city of Joan of Arc, and the old city centre is a dead ringer for Hogwarts.

Amiens is nice, the cathedral and then there are these gardens that you visit in a boat called the hortillonnages, right in the middle of the town. Chantilly is also pleasant.

But I would suggest you go to Compiège, that's nice and not too far from Calais whilst not being so close as to feel that you haven't gone anywhere, and you can visit the Château de Pierrefonds, which was rebuilt in the 19th century and looks like something out of a fairy tale. There is also the Clairière de l'Armistice which is where the WW1 armistice was signed, there's a reproduction of the train (Hitler destroyed the original I think) and a museum, that's really good.

If you do want to do a theme park, and don't want to do Disney, the very French Parc d'Astérix is on that side of Paris.

Thanks everyone. We've booked Rouen. I remember going there with school many moons ago. We plan some further trips over there so will look at all the other suggestions.
