Tui keep emailing with hotel issues

Hiya, we've got a holiday booked with Tui for May half term. We are new to package holidays so I am not sure what is and is not usual / acceptable.

First they emailed to say the road outside the hotel will be being repaired for the duration of our stay and therefore likely to be noise to some extent from 6am till 8pm daily. We deliberately had not booked hotels that highlighted building work so this was annoying but figured it was one of those things. Not much we could do.

Today they emailed to say that the indoor pool will be closed during our stay. Sorry. But that the outdoor pool will be open. This is unheated and likely to be very cold in May. We specifically chose a hotel with a heated indoor pool because that's what the kids want the most.

This feels like more of a deal breaker. But... is there anything we can do? Do we just have to suck it up? Its just bad luck. Do we ask for some money back? Do we see if we can swap to a different hotel? Presume this would be a lot more expensive though now and we don't have the funds for that.

What do people do in these situations? It's such a shame because we haven't been abroad since before covid and it was all going to be all about the pool 😞

Grateful for any ideas or suggestions.

Oh god cancel. You'll be massively pissed off and stressed all holiday, waiting for something else to go wrong.

Clymene · 17/05/2023 16:49

And you've got 10 days to cancel the cattery.

Hope you find an alternative - but just in case you have to make the best of this one, if you’re worried about the outdoor swimming pool being cold can you bring wetsuits for the kids? The cheap(ish) ones the supermarkets/ sports direct sell should be fine for this purpose

i know that’s not the point re being cross with Tui (which I think is entirely justifiable) but just wanted to make practical suggestion in case you hadn’t thought of it

hope you still have a great holiday 🌞

Get the refund and book with Jet2 instead etc ?

I am definitely not going to have a moany holiday, I am still really looking forward to not being at work and not being in this country. The kids have no idea that anything is different from what we booked, and I imagine will also just be delighted to have gone abroad.

But having said that, yes, TUI is a huge company and I would have been happy at this point even for a small token gesture of money back so we could book our own taxi from the airport. We land about 1 or 2am from memory, so this was why we looked taxi transfer as an option as we didn't want to be on a bus going round lots of drop offs with tired kids.

For us, the whole thing is a huge amount of money. For TUI, £50 for a taxi as a gesture of goodwill probably less so.

What grates is that I spent ages comparing hotels, what was included, what was on offer, transfer deals, flight times etc and that led me to choose this one. If I had known when TUI knew, I could have potentially made some different decisions.

But equally, it is possible that the taxi will be available, the noise won't be too bad, and the pools will be warm. And this will all have been over nothing.

@curliegirlie Yes it is! That's reassuring that the noise wasn't too bad. The pools must have been freezing outdoors, did they have wetsuits on? 😉

@Quveas Oh no, I'm really sorry to hear you had such a bad holiday though. I'm pleased you got some money back though. I hope you have a much better holiday next time.

Thank you to everyone offerring suggestions and offerring their searching skills. I think I did look on Jet2 when I initially posted, but I am going to double check now. And thank you for just listening to me grumble. It helps!!

@Pattygonia I am so slow at typing that I didn't see your post. Maybe wetsuits is the way forward then! Thank you 😎

I'll save the receipts ready to attach to my Tui complaint (this is a joke!)

@Towelin

I would recommend keeping the holiday - you'll have an amazing time, it's a fab hotel, the food and ents are great, you're right across from the beach, right next to the bus stop to get to Valetta and elsewhere on the island, the ferry to Gozo is 10 mins in the opposite direction, you're close to Popeye Village, which is great fun. At that time of year it'll be really great weather too. God, I wish we were going back in half term 🤪

Towelin · 17/05/2023 19:31

@curliegirlie Ahhhhh excellent!! Glad you had a nice holiday there. That definitely makes me feel more reassured and excited 😃

What a coincidence!

I wouldn't worry about a bus transfer, we had 3 hotels on ours, all within a 5 minute walk of each other, they group them. If you are a late flight the chances are everyone is waiting for you!
