Sicily or Corfu?

I was thinking Sicily for the non-Easter school spring holiday. Have never been there but seemed to combine beaches, Italian food, nature and some archaeological stuff the kids would like. DP, a rampant helenophile, is now putting in a bid for Corfu, allegedly because you get more villa for your money there, but really no doubt because he is desperate to get to Greece. Anyone got any views on the comparative merits of the two?

Bumping; someone must be willing to diss Corfu?

Sicily.

We are going to Morocco (Essaouira) for the non-Easter Spring break. But Sicily would be lovely too - go to Syracuse, it's gorgeous. Lovely for children.

Not really .

We stayed, pre-children, in a B&B which was very beautiful and aristocratic, but also very decrepit, just outside Syracuse - does that sound your sort of thing?

Otherwise, right in the centre of Syracuse old town, there is a three or four star modernish hotel that would probably be my choice these days with children in tow.

Syracuse town centre would be a fantastic destination for children because it's almost traffic-free, with lots of bars/terraces and places to run around. Car an absolute must for sight-seeing.

this is it

Colinfirth · 15/02/2008 13:50

ooh, that looks lovely. Completely off the villas now...

If you like the B&B, you must get rooms in the main house, not the "dependance" as the main house is really beautiful.

Well I would go for Sicilky because I have already been to Corfu BUT it was lovely and if you find a good deal don't dismiss it as there is culture in Corfu too:

Been to both, but of the two I would go back to Sicily first. We stayed in Toarmina which has the amphi theatre and gorgeous views of Mount Etna.
I liked Corfu as well and it was the cheaper of the 2,but Sicily just had that something extra.

I would go for Sicily too. Italy is just lovely
If I were you I'd argue that it is nearer so shorter flights and smaller carbon footprint..
