Booked a sun holiday to Dawlish warren for May bank holiday..stupidly thought we would be ok with the weather and now it looks shite. What is there to do around this area for a three year old that won't break the bank? We are so tight on funds at the mo so I'd imagined we'd spend cheap days at the beach but nope, I'd forgotten uk weather is so pants at time.

It's not for another 2 weeks so who knows what the weather will be like- could be glorious!
It's very changeable in Devon anyway so even if it rains it could be sunny an hour later.

It’s 2 weeks away, so may well be fine.

we had a rainy budget holiday to dawlish years ago when the kids were small. They had some sort of festival on when we were there with kids entertainers, free open top vintage bus rides and all sorts. We got a bit soggy, but it was good fun and budget friendly. It may have been the same weekend (it was definitely in May) so have a look there might be something going on.

Hop on the train and go to Exeter. The (free) museum is fun for small people.

Crealy Gardens has ball ponds, indoor and outdoor play areas and loads for little ones. It's also quite close to Exmouth with a lovely little play park right opposite the beach.

I believe the donkey sanctuary at Sidmouth is free to visit, although of course you'd spend a bit on getting there. Not sure it's something I'd suggest for a torrentially rainy day, but in a drizzly day, with wellies, I think it would work.

What constitutes 'won't break the bank' for you at the moment? I don't want to suggest things that aren't attainable (but equally, I don't want to list things that are so mundane you might as well not be on holiday...)

Not much to do in Dawlish when in rains. It’s a bit depressing TBH. You could go to Woodlands or Crealy. Paignton to Dartmouth Steam Train. Exeter shops or cinema.
