So we have booked a package holiday to Ibiza through lastminute which included the flights, airport transfer, and the hotel. We paid extra for the hotel to have free cancellation which was available up to a few days before the the day we were supposed to go. So we thought if anything comes up we'll just pay for the flights if we need to change the date as hotel was free cancellation.
Due to personal reasons we did end up wanting to change the date. We booked this holiday in January so we were told the new dates would have to be within 1 year since we made the booking so we thought we'll go in September. Despite the hotel being free cancellation, and finding the dates we wanted were available with the hotel and with the flight company they refused these dates saying "We have been unable to confirm the change you requested as changes to your hotel booking are not permitted according to the policy of your chosen hotel. Your booking therefore remains unchanged" since then we've tried various other dates and the same reply came back despite being told on the phone that we can change the date, to only later on be told that "the hotel won't allow it" .
We then thought if we can't change the date we'll cancel it and just pay for the flights and transfer. However, we were then told that the hote IS NOT free cancellation and that the free cancellation "expired" and we'd need to pay nearly the same amount as the holiday itself to cancel, we explained the hotel was free cancellation and they outright denied this. Then we were told by someone else that the hotel is indeed free cancellation until the 8th of June but we would need to pay a cancellation fee of £300 plus their fee and cancellation of flights £750. We called again and. Were told cancellation would be £750 with everything included . Everyone is just telling us different things, they won't let us change the date, cancellation fee is unknown since they re all telling us different things and once we request cancellation we can't change our minds. Any advice on what we can do? It's been an absolute nightmare dealing with them.
