Ok so I want to book a family holiday with two teens. One wants adventure - he’d ideally love Dubai with sand dunes buggy rides etc
Husband wants AI turkey and to do NOTHING
Younger teeth wants fun games, sports and a tan - he’s easy.
I don’t want to spend more than 6k in August

Any suggestions please!

Dubai in August will be HOT beyond comprehension, but that may be achievable with £6k because of that. Dubai is expensive though and you’d get more bang for your buck in Turkey

Dubai is a bit dull. Sure you can go into the desert for a night (camels in and buggies out seems popular), but there's not a lot else to do once you've done that. And its expensive and pretty intolerant. Its' not adventure at all. If he wants that, then Jordan (Wadi Rum, Petra, Jerash, Crusader forts, Dead Sea (THe Dead Sea is a bit disgusting though) and really friendly people.

A resort in Turkey could keep most of you happy. Me, I'd do Jordan.

I'd look at tenerife.

It doesn't matter where your husband is if all he wants to do is nothing.

Plenty to do for both kids, teide, Siam park, water sports, buggies etc

Panic71 · 09/04/2023 18:38

I keep being told turkey too!

We are currently in Morocco and have spent the week either doing sod all, or dune buggy rides / camel treks / surfing. So I’d say it’s perfect for what you want!

Mayvis · 09/04/2023 18:56

You haven’t said what YOU want to do.

We had a great family holiday in Turkey. Some lazy days by the pool at the AI resort then some days at the water park and going on a jeep safari where you had a water fight with the other jeeps.

Notfeelinglikemyselftoday · 09/04/2023 19:01

I noticed you haven't said what you'd like from a holiday.

I was also going to suggest Morocco. Lots of day trip opportunities for your DC, Marrakech is wonderful. Just watch out as some beaches are very windy - good for surfing though!

Panic71 · 10/04/2023 09:04

Oooo now these suggestions sound good. Can you link me to your hotels?

They have buggy rides in Turkey, parachutes, etc.

Turkey would please everyone. Dubai is a bit meh imo and the flight is longer.

Have a look at Oludeniz in turkey, they've got all those kind of trips including paragliding as well, but equally you can just chill by the pool/beach. Mainly b&b hotels but a few AI too, however there are loads of amazing restaurants so we usually go B&B for that reason!

It's lovely having breakfast watching the paragliders in the sky :)

PinotPony · 10/04/2023 09:24

We've just come back from Turkey. Did paragliding in Oludeniz and river rafting on inflatable donuts. Also lazed by the pool and had a Turkish bath and massage. Best of both...

We went to Dubai in June last year and it was so HOT that you couldn't do anything outside, even in the evening. I wanted to explore the markets and my dh wanted to do the dune buggy thing, but it was 40+ degrees so it just wasn't possible to do anything that wasn't water related or indoors. I love to sunbathe but had to lie in the shade and keep going into the pool in the shade.

There's lots of places you can have a beach holiday, all inclusive and somewhere to have a few adventures

Panic71 · 10/04/2023 09:46

The more I look the more confused I get. We have been to Mexico in the past and that’s cheeper than some European breaks at the moment. I’d love Cuba personally with a few days in Havana then the beach but hardly any offers at the moment.
Oludeniz sounds great with river rafting - eldest would love that

Have you considered Morroco? Not Marrakech. We did Marrakech then drove to Essaouira , but you can go direct. Dune buggies on the sand dunes, great for water sports, horse riding, very relaxed vibe , music and fresh fish at the harbour, also cheap. Not sure what the weather will be like in August but it's breezy so that helps. We stayed in a Riad in Marrakech but the Sofitel in Essaouira, just outside of town on the beach but regular shuttle bus if you're not driving.

I am slightly scared of turkey but lots of people seem to go and love it so fingers crossed

I hated Dubai. Too bling and no soul at all.

It was hotter than hell and I went in July.

I would never go back.

Icmeler is a nice smaller resort and for nearby and more action you get a taxi boat into marmaris about ten minutes away and a good trip is the one to pharmakali and ephusus plenty of water based activities in the resorts boat trips on the bay are a good day out big indoor market in marmaris harbour is fab

Isseywith3witchycats · 11/04/2023 21:54

Turkey is muslim but secular so western dress as opposed to traditional, if you get hassle its easy to say no to going in to a restaurant or bar they back off quickly, my stock answers were leather shop im vegetarian dont do leather, restaurant ive eaten at the hotel, bar find the name of a bar further down and say you are meeting friends there
