Is 7 nights in the Caribbean too little?

Never been to the Caribbean before but booked to go to an island there for 2 weeks. Started looking at costs more and realised prices have gone up a lot vs the guide I was reading.

I can move my flights cheaply to do 7 nights instead. It’s a 10 hour flight as the plane stops off in Barbados first.

I did 2 weeks in the Maldives a few years ago, and whilst it was lovely, I was bored. I also hated the feeling of being constantly ripped off. (Our hotel charged £6 a bottle of water..)

It depends on what you do really but I think 10 days would be better if you can. We went for two weeks and some people we were there with did 7 days and it just felt like a lot of travelling for such a relatively short holiday, plus the jet lag.

We always do 10 days now, wherever we go. 7 days isn’t long enough, especially after a ten hour flight. Have you looked at all inclusive?

@DriedFenugreek
Really depends on what you want to do whilst there. Some islands have more to see than others. I prefer 7 nice days to 10 cheap and cheerful. However if we get around seeing a lot, then 10 days. 14 stuck in one hotel would drive me mad. Shame you are not just one direct flight.

I wouldn't fly 10 hours for 7 nights personally. Where abouts were you thinking of going OP?
Dominican Republic is gorgeous and the Royalton chains are fab.

We did 10 nights in Antigua in February and that was about right.

I would say a week for a first visit might be a bit short.

I
Wouldn't go long haul for a week. Minimum 10 and always all inclusive.
It's very reasonable.

Which island are you going to? If you’re going to one that requires a connection then it’s probably a less touristy one.

We did 7 nights in Antigua and 7 nights in Barbados, that was plenty. I think you’d want 10 nights if you were going to the Grenadines or Grenada. Maybe 10 nights if going to St Kitts & Nevis.

I don’t think OP is going to the Dominican Republic.

I think it's personal preference. DH hates to be anywhere for longer than a week so that's all I get. I think it's worth it especially if you will be mainly in the resort.

I went to Thailand this year for 6 nights and it was fine. I recently went to Jamaica for a work trip for 5 nights and that was also fine. I’d go for it

TizerorFizz · 08/04/2023 19:06

@DriedFenugreek where do you have the flights booked to? What island?

almondflake · 08/04/2023 19:56

We do this regularly , we've had some great deals on 7 nights to Barbados, Antigua, Aruba to name a few , we're off to Mauritius in October for 7 nights , the jet lag doesn't seem to bother us anymore but must admit Mauritius is the longest flight time we've had .
