Mauritius or Thailand with 6 year old summer hols

Looking to book 2 weeks away in the summer hols with DP and 6 yr old DS and considering Thailand or Mauritius but I'm a bit overwhelmed with choice. If we choose Thailand we would be looking around the koh samui area due to weather over the summer.

We usually go AI in Europe or Carribbean so wanted to go east for a change.

Which would you choose? Or somewhere else? Any hotel recommendations would be useful. Budget up to 8k for AI, less for B&B.

Mauritius

Mauritius- but make sure you are on the west of the island.

Weather is still very warm but comfortable that time of year so perfect for children. Very small time difference so less jet lag, shorter flight etc.

I’m in Thailand with my 6 yo at the moment and it’s fantastic! Very different to an all inc though.

Mauritius - we stayed at Hotel Zilwa on the east coast . Wonderful Mauritian company and excellent ethics regarding sustainability . Family friendly and was our best holiday ever. Our kids were 6 & 11 when we went .

I am in Mauritius at the moment. It's beautiful.

The North is better for the weather.
So many lovely resorts to choose from.

Mauritius is lovely but it's their off season in summer. Definitely look at hotels on the north. Zilwa Attitude is brilliant.

Mauritius has easier flight as minimal jet lag, but it is very honeymoon place (I say that as we had our honeymoon there). Thailand is amazing to travel around but doesn’t sound like you’re going to bother with that

@Lcb123 There are actually lots of hotels geared towards families there. We stayed at the Heritage Awali and it was perfect for my 8 and 5 year olds. We also went in July (their “winter”) and it was fine. Just don’t go East Coast as you’ll be blown away!!!!

Main thing I was going to ask is how fussy your child is with food? Admittedly it was backpacking but I did find the spice levels in food pretty high when I was in Thailand (even when asking for stuff with less chilli) and would worry my children would struggle a bit food wise as they refuse to eat anything spicy. Less of an issue with an all inclusive though. More likely to struggle with heat etc so at that age with my fusspot children I’d pick Mauritius and do Thailand when they were a bit older/more adventurous. Depends a lot on your child though.

Sorry to throw a different option into the mix, and I have no idea what the weather would be like so this might be a stupid suggestion, but what about Malaysia? I’d love to take our kids to the resort in Langkawi where we went on honeymoon (the Berjaya) and maybe twin that with a trip to Borneo.
