Barcelona must see ideas please!

Travelling to Barcelona with DH and 17yo DS in late July.
We arrive at lunchtime and then have another two full days.
What are the must see landmarks?
DS wants to visit Barcelona’s football ground, although I read on the website that they are closed for guided tours this summer, so we will just be able to look in the museum and shop.
Any advice on itineraries please? Do I need to book anything in advance to avoid queues?

We enjoyed the hop on hop off bus tour - it stops by the football stadium too

EnglishGirlApproximately · 01/04/2023 14:29

Definitely do the hop on hop off, by far the easiest way to get around. If uoh want to go inside sagrada familia I'd pre book as it gets really busy. My favourite spot is park guell. Its a great city to just wander around tbh. The beach area is nice for a few cocktails/ ice creams if you get good weather

RedToothBrush · 01/04/2023 14:39

The Sagrada Familia and Parc Guell are the two where unless you book, you are unlikely to get in.

Both I'd recommend highly as top of your list of things you should do.

The cable car to Montjuic is definitely worth considering.

Otherwise finding nice places to eat would be top of my list for two days in Barcelona as it's such a great city to eat in. The market just off Las Ramblas is a good shout for sightseeing, experience and food.

I really enjoy wandering around the Gothic Quarter (near the market) with all the pretty little squares which is easy to fit in.

All easily doable within timeframe.

I was fascinated by the sagrada familia. We booked a guide, which was well worth it.
I also 2nd the hop on, hop off bus. When we were there, there were plenty of buses, so if you get off somewhere, you don't have to wait an hour for the next one, or be watching the time to make sure you are ready as you do when the buses only come on the hour. We saw a a lot that way (including Nou Camp - although, tbh, there isn't much to see if you can't do the tour)

Bus tour
Sagrada familia
the old gothic quarter - at night too as they have events on - lovely hustle and bustle
The market La Boqueria
The Picasso museum

I loved it - was great with a 4,11,17 year old

Casa Batllo is one of my favourite places to visit along with all the other Gaudi sights. Definitely book in advance.

MACBA if you're into modern art.
El Born is great for shopping.
Els Encants flea market (Google before you go to check which days it on)

It's a great city just to wander around and look at the architecture.

The musical fountain is fun and well worth it

BeaLola · 02/04/2023 00:05

Sagrada Familia
Market
Picasso Museum
Park Guell
My favourite first time I went was the Palau de La Musica Catalana - was lucky enough to go to a concert there
The Ramblas

BigPussyEnergy · 02/04/2023 00:08

the Fountains
cable car
we did a combo helicopter and boat tour thing which was good fun, just flew up and down the coast a couple of times but good to get an aerial view of the city.

also the people dancing in the square outside the restaurants in the evening - can’t remember where exactly it was but keep an eye out .

loved Barcelona and would definitely go back but it’s doable in a couple of days to get a good idea of what’s there

DarlingG · 02/04/2023 00:11

There was a little lake we took a boat out on. We went to las ramblas for lunch. We did the bus tour and got off at some of the major sights. We went to park guell on a really hot day though and all I remember is trying to get round it as quick as possible. We were literally melting so in hindsight I’d go there first in the day if it’s hot rather than trailing round in the heat

midsomermurderess · 02/04/2023 09:26

It is always the same things with Barcelona, it’s always this:
Sagrada Familia, Market, Picasso Museum, Park Guell. Oh, and the beach and The Miro Foundation. All packed, rammed, the whole city sinking under massive over-tourism, every one going to these destinations. It’s a bit of a sad city now.

orangelotus · 03/04/2023 09:23

i went last year in june. i has always thought it wasn't for me because of the type of comments like the person above said
It was wonderful the gaudi stuff was amazing
we stayed in a a three star hotel in an area not near the beach and the food in the restaurants in the square behind the hotel were exceptional and so cheap.
if you're interested i'll dig out the details.
only wish i hadn't left it so long and am definitely going back

Are you sure the football stadium isn’t doing tours. We’ve been early July, although we were on a cruise. It’s still worth it, even if it’s not a full tour, if you have football fans, the museum and shop is great. The hop on bus stops outside.

countvoncount · 03/04/2023 10:08

Fabulous brunch place called Bruch and cake, I can't remember exactly where it is, but well worth a visit, I left a trip advisor review, was my favourite meal!

According to the website the stadium is closed for renovations. My football obsessed teenager is not impressed 😔
