Taking advantage of being near Scottish airports during English school holidays?

I'm looking at a family holiday last two weeks in August. ⁹Would like somewhere like France, Spain, Greece, Turkey but I'm trying to do it on the cheap. I'm looking at flying from Edinburgh or Glasgow but can't seem to work out where the best destinations are. I used to think the fact that the Scottish schools were back was an advantage. Can anyone offer advice please? I'm open to flight only then a Eurocamp or self catering. Obviously if a half board option comes up with Jet2 or Easy Jet hols so much the better.
Any help from those living in Northern England who've managed to get a cheapy holiday flying from Scotland would be v much appreciated

We've flown from Glasgow towards the end of August when Scottish schools have gone back and saved around 400. We do have relatives nearby so combined it with a vist to them.

Also to be fair, you've left it a bit late for a bargain for this summer. You'd be better looking for next year as soon as the flights come out to get a real bargain.

It usually depends on dates which works out cheaper. Newcastle is usually pricey. If flying in July before English schools break up
Manchester will be cheaper than flying from either Edinburgh or Glasgow but if flying after mid August Scotland is usually cheaper and if you are flexible and able to
mess round with days and dates and say fly on a Tuesday and go for 8, 11, 12 or 13 nights again sometimes money can be saved.

So just to be nosy, I looked up some holidays to Majorca with Jet2 and found free child places available from Edinburgh on the 21st Aug. Same holiday was over 1k more expensive flying from Newcastle and about £800 cheaper than flying from Manchester.

I suspect you don't live a million miles from me. We always check Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Manchester and Liverpool for the best flights when we are going on holiday as there is not a massive difference in journey times for us and there can be significant differences in price. Early Summer, the English airports are usually cheaper but in late August once the Scottish schools have gone back you can get some good deals from Scottish airports and there are less children on the flights too. A few years ago we saved nearly £500 for 4 of us flying to Lanzarote from Glasgow compared to Manchester with similar departure times, so it's not like one was a night flight or anything. It is definitely worth shopping around, but as a PP said, I woukd start by choosing your destination, or at least a couple of options and then look for the cheapest flights.

Scottish people go to English airports because the flights are cheaper so not sure you'll pay less in Scotland.

That’s because for the first couple of weeks of Scottish school summer holidays the English schools aren’t off yet. We used to save hundreds flying from Newcastle.

To the op, yes flights from Scotland are a bit cheaper from the 2nd half of August once our schools are back. I was in Glasgow airport 3rd week in August last year and there were a LOT of English accents

I don't know why some people think Scottish airports are tiny little regional things serving a handful of destinations.
Edinburgh is the busiest airport in Scotland, on a par with Birmingham, and only beaten by the three main London airports and Manchester in the UK for numbers of passengers and aircraft movements. Glasgow is not far behind.
Both Edinburgh and Glasgow airports serve lots of destinations, especially in Europe. However Edinburgh may be more expensive to travel from at the end of August because of the International Festival which runs all month.
Your best bet is to decide where you want to go and price it up from various airports.

If you go on Jet2 holidays website you can select multiple departure airports and any of their destinations. It shows the cheapest option but gives you the option to change departure airport (if there's another flight option). I did a dummy search for 2 adults and 2 children from Edinburgh, Glasgow and Newcastle going to anywhere in the Med on Fri 25th August and the scottish airports are coming out about £400 cheaper than flying from Newcastle to the same hotel.
