Packing cosmetics/ toiletries

If you are going abroad and have limited packing space, do you forego some of your usual cosmetics/ toiletries to save space in your case?

What do you live without whilst you're on holiday?

Or do you buy those little travel bottles and measure it all out into the perfect amounts?

I struggle with this as the number of toiletries/ cosmetics I use has gradually increased over the years!

I stick to absolute basics. Body lotion sunscreen deodorant and the minimum make up ie just moisturiser mascara one eyeshadow and one lipstick that doubles as a blush. Hair stuff and that's it .

I take travel bottles.

I bring the bare minimum and usually buy over there in cheap supermarket, like shower gel, shampoo, deodorant and suncream that we can all use for the week. Whatever we don't use isn't usually worth packing to bring home again with all the showers and reapplying suncream at pool or beach

I take the absolute basics, so a simple makeup kit, any hair products other than shampoo and conditioner, and my moisturiser in a smaller pot, and I pick up sunscreen shower gel and shampoo etc over there if I'm going for more than a couple of days. For shorter trips I buy a set of minis, shampoo conditioner shower gel and toothpaste, or take mini bottles if I can find them and get organised. But those minis are never enough for more than 3-4 days in my experience.

For my expensive stuff like moisturiser, foundation, hair serum etc I decant into small pots. For more general stuff/sun cream I use Boots click and collect at the airport, it’s classed as duty free so can take on board as extra. I’ve also just bought supermarket stuff if we have gone to Spain

Travel bottles and samples, I collect them and save for holidays. If long holiday then also buy some stuff at destination like sunscreen.

Clammyclam · 25/03/2023 20:23

As most have said
I decant the stuff I know I can't get over there and then buy the rest at the supermarket
I reuse the mini bottles/ have a travel set now that I top up for each trip- all labelled.
Basic makeup- if it's going to be hot you might only need the basics.

I have a load of smaller sized bottles to decant stuff into which works fine. I have crazy hair so can't wing it on shampoo and conditioner - especially in heat/humidity/swimming daily. I have also done the boots click and collect thing mentioned by PP especially for sunscreen and when traveling hand luggage only so limited by 100ml bottles.

I prioritise my (expensive) make up then buy travel size toothpaste, shower gel, mouth wash, shampoo and conditioners in boots/ Superdrug when I get through security. There no limit once through security.

Unless you have specific UK brands you can't live without, just take enough for the first day and buy new there.
