Advice on planned trip to Pompeii / Erculano

Hello,

I would dearly love to take my 8 and 6 year old to Pompeii / Erculano in May, with potentially a day trip (?) to Capri depending on cost. Plus a day in Naples as it sounds like the best airport to fly into. Has anyone done a similar trip who could offer advice?

It's the first time we'd be going on holiday "just us" as opposed to wider family trips, which are lovely, but naturally involve a lot of compromise. I'm very excited and have started to plan!

Thank you for any and all advice!

The main railway station in Naples is in Piazza Garibaldi.

@mimosa1 are you looking for a hotel or SC? We stayed in a beautiful airbnb in Piano di Sorrento (on the Circumvesuvio train line between naples and Sorrento) last summer, if you want the link. It was a great base to explore the area. We did the train to pompeii which was v straightforward, train station 2 minutes from entrance to Pompeii. I bought tickets on the app in advance to skip the line, and kids are free. Ferry to Capri is a pleasant journey, and takes less than an hour from Naples, Sorrento or Piano. Take the cable car, at Monte Solaro for the best views.

We also did a private tour with a local driver of the Amalfi Coast, visiting Praiano, Positano, Ravello and Amalfi in a single day in an air conditioned car. He took us to the best spots for photos and views, told us some of the history of the area, and dropped us at a great spot for lunch.

I'd love the Airbnb link - thanks SO much!

I’ve done it but wouldn’t go to Naples. It’s full of crime and pretty rough. Stay in Sorrento and get the train. It’s easy. I agree about going to Pompeii in the early mornings if possible. Both sites are absolutely fascinating. We didn’t go to Capri .
