Amsterdam Must See

I am going to Amsterdam with work and will have 2 very short windows to explore / visit myself. Like about 2 hours! So probably not enough time to really visit museums or any kind of organised tour / visit.

I guess its recommendations of areas that give me most bang for my (time) buck!!

The church in the attic is small. Lovely and a thing.

the cathedral.

But just walk the canals and eat apple cake.

@BarrelOfOtters thank you - stupid question but is it obvious where to go for the canals?! I'm staying at the Nhow Rai...

Pretty easy, just head north from your hotel up to the rings of canals …you could do a boat trip. There’s loads, just pick a non weed one unless that’s your thing. viatravelers.com/best-canals-in-amsterdam/

As pp poster said, with your time frames just wandering along the canals, looking at the houses and boats, have a coffee at Spanjer & van Twist on Leligracht (they have canal side tables). Cheese shops, flower shops, apple cake, pancakes, pea soup. Spend time in the Jordaan.

From that hotel, you are a metro or tram ride away from central AMS so you may just want to ride the tram in and out to do some sightseeing! It's a 30 min walk to the outer ring of canals from there. The metro is close though so you could jump on that for a walk around central AMS, pop into De Oude Kirk.

You are super close to the Amstelpark for a wander round if the weather is nice.
