Is it cheaper to book May half term break last minute, or bite the bullet and pay now

We have finally pulled our finger out and decided to go on holiday with our little boy (3) in the May half-term; for personal reasons the summer holidays are not doable. Looking at the options, things are quite pricey (we definitely want somewhere that has a playpark and kids pool, and is by the beach).

I have noticed that some guides advocate waiting until the last 8 weeks or less to get the best deals. However, given it is half-term, I'm concerned that everything that fits our parameters will be booked up.

What are people's experiences like booking last minute for the May half-term? Should I wait, or should I just bite the bullet now? We aren't too fussed about which country we go to, we just don't want anything over 4 hours of flight time.

If he's 3, why are you tied to half term? Go the week after or before and it'll be significantly cheaper.

Are you going abroad?

Half term in May is always the most popular one. I would book if you find something you like.

Maybe they're teachers?!

OP I think booking now is quite last minute for May.

I booked in January for May half term as I saw an ideal hotel with a beach front location and looked the other day and the price had gone up £400.

However last year I booked May half term 11 days before we went and got a total bargain with Tui but the choice was very limited. The prices are changing daily but I don't see them coming down. Plus with Jet2 (not sure about the others) if you book less than 10 weeks before departure you need to pay the full amount when you book it.

Book asap. Even a few days later it can go up quite a bit.
