Any tips or recommendations? Still in planning stages… me, DH, 2 DC (late primary age). We like swimming, snorkeling, food and a bit of culture…

Where abouts in Oman are you looking at? I spent a week in Muscat last month and loved it.
I would 100% recommend Daymaniat sea tours (cruiseboatom on instagram) for snorkeling with turtles on Daymaniat island.
Are you planning on hiring a car? if not use the otaxi app for taxis.
Tours can be expensive, but if you get a driver you like they will often ask you if you want to book tours with them, hire them for a few days. This could be better depending on how far out you want to go.

Get to the desert - it’s not far and there are plenty of camps to choose from. Even just one night is worth it! Beautiful country well worth a visit.

the sooq in the old quarter is a lovely way to spend an evening, and a nice wander round the harbour area as well.

Which hotels would people recommend? We’re considering Oman for winter sun this November. Couple, no children.

We stayed at the crowne plaza ocec (2 friends, no kids with us) it was a nice hotel and good value, great breakfast buffet. but further out of the town with nothing near it apart from the convention centre. But saying that it was not expensive to get taxis into Muttrah. (use the Otaxi app and set pick up location as Oman convention centre to get cheaper prices.) also not far from the airport.

The other crowne plaza in Muscat has a private beach and runs a free shuttle bus to the mosque & souq I think.

Op, I’ve lived here for more than 4 decades and would be happy to advise you on any aspect of your holiday.

I know this is a really old thread BUT you never know!

I am going to Oman for a week 13-20 Feb. Staying in Muscat but travelling to Sur Saturday 15th and staying there until the Monday.

I used to live there but that was 20+ years ago.

Any advice on travelling to Sur from Muscat? I am sure I used to get the bus and it took around 3 hours but looking online, it seems to be closer to 5!! Shared taxis an option but from where?

I do speak some Arabic and guess I can ask when I get there but would be useful to have some info before I go.
