We’re looking at booking for last 2 weeks October and firsts week in November. I’m thinking that might be too early.

Autumn is the best time to go IMO, but you will find that many areas won't have the most striking foliage until mid November.

Where is it you plan to go? Autumn will occur sooner in areas to the North, like Hokkaido, but also areas with higher elevation. I went to Nagano, Kanazawa, Takeyama and Kamikochi in late Oct/early Nov and the colours were Vivid!

That’s great @QuibbleTribble , we are bit limited how late we can go, so will probably be in Kyoto early November….so I’m hoping there’ll be some leaf change even if not the full effect.
