BA seat selection

It's been a while since I've booked BA. With the cheap tickets that have no free seat selection, how much does it usually cost on top? And do they just select one for you if you don't want to pay?

Pink. Its cheap because you are flying with a very well know airline that is very unlikely to go bust. With BA you HAVE to pay for seat selction unless you are Silver Status or above. I went Club Class with them last year which was £££ but they were the only airline travelling direct. I didnt pay for a seat and wish I had tbh. Plane was full and the chap next to me snored the whole flight!

They do select any seat for you and wont tell you in advance where it is of course.

I guess if you dont mind sitting next to the toilets, in a middle seat, not next to your travel compaion etc its fine but if you are ultra fussy (and there seems to be an awful lot of people who just cannot bear to be parted from whomever they are travelling with for even a few hours) it might be prudent to pay for a seat.

I am not that bothered on Economy tickets as there are 4 of us and I always seem to be the person sitting in the middle of a row of three so certainly dont want to pay for that.

I’ve just paid for seat selection for a quick break we’re taking next week.

European destination, travelling economy. Seat costs ranged from £12 per person per journey to £34 per person per journey. £12 got you back of the plane next to the toilets, £34 got you extra leg room on an exit row.

Thanks both! I'm travelling solo and it'll be a short 4 hour flight so I think I can just about cope with sitting somewhere randomly assigned. The flight I want is already so expensive!

I rarely pay for my seat whether flying solo or with the family when I fly with BA and I dont feel they put in in a horrible seat just because you wont pay for one. Ryan Air I hear do but you have to sit somewhere. I suspect you might be moved around as the plane fills up and some people pay for a seat but its not as though you have to stand!

When I flew Club last year I should have paid for a seat. In the grand scheme of things it wasnt much!
