Where to go in September, DH's 40th

I'm not very well travelled, we want to go away for 7-10 days in mid September so looking for ideas/recommendations...

We'd prefer it not too hot, maybe max 25 degrees. We're not sunbathers and prefer to mooch about, nice coffee shops, bars, restaurants etc. so prefer somewhere quieter - no nightclubs or entertainment required!

We have a good budget for the right holiday.

Almost everywhere in Europe is lovely in September. It's a good month to go.

How about Italy? Lake Garda? Sorrento/Amalfi Coast?

Interlaken, Switzerland

Oooh so much choice if you have a decent budget. Check flights from your local airport. Nothing worse than arriving home and then having to drive miles.

September is perfect weather for the Med. I think it depends on your own likes and preferences. Sicily might tick lots of boxes. Taormina is stunning and the food and drink culture is amazing.

Greece will also be quieter. Pick a bigger island like Crete if you want more stuff to see.

Spain has huge choice of flights. Anywhere on the coast will give you lovely weather. Nerja near Malaga might be a good base with trips to Granada or Seville. Palma in Mallorca is also a great option. Lovely city and easy access to beautiful scenery.

Copenhagen or Stockholm. Zurich or Berlin. Montreal or Boston if you don’t mind a slightly longer flight.

If you’d rather stay within the UK, both Glasgow and Edinburgh are worth a visit. You might have to contend with rain though.

Amsterdam is a lovely place to sit in cafes & watch the world go by & little shops & markets

Lots of museums & art galleries

Public transport is easy via trams, buses, boats, bicycles, trains

Italy is lovely for that and temp should be OK then and less tourists. My favourites are Taormina in Sicily, Amalfi Coast, Venice. Sicily was superb for seafood, stuffed swordfish kebabs.

We’ve done Croatia in sept and I would definitely recommend. Also Corfu but Croatia is so much nicer

We went to Monte Carlo for my 40th - lots of wondering around the town having lovely meals and drinks

Marche in Italy, explore beautiful towns like Urbino or Ascoli Piceno. Choose a few agritourismo and meander.

Don’t go to Tenerife.
I went there for my 50th managed to get robbed and spent my birthday in the british consulate getting a temp passport to get home.
