Croatia- Easter. Things to do

My friend has suggested that we go to Croatia for 10/14 days at Easter as it has been on our wish list for a while.
We will hire a car. We haven't' got an unlimited budget, we are active and like to get out and explore. Can people suggest some great ideas so that we can plan an itinerary please.

Split is a really good base for a holiday of more than one week because there are so many day trip options. From Split, we did Hvar, Brac, Blue Lagoon, Krka NationaL Park, Salona Roman ruins, and Omis for rafting, canyoning and a zip line!

Split is a bit dull but ok for arriving and leaving if you are sleeping elsewhere for the other days. If you go island hopping then it is best to stay overnight on a larger island like Hvar rather than take the ferry back. If you suffer from sea sickness then island hopping can be challenging.

I'm hearing nice things about Croatia. My nan used to love going there.

It is great but not cheap since adopting the euro in January.
Basically, history buffs would be best served by staying in Dubrovnik (most expensive part of Croatia). Korcula Island is accessible.
Split is probably best for island hoppers (but many islands do not have a lot going on!). Hvar is Croatia's answer to Ibiza but has nice restaurants and hotels compared to the other islands.
The north of Dalmatia (Istria) is foodie territory where most dishes are carpeted in shaved truffles if you go at the right time of the year.
Zagreb - fairly dull but has good flight connections.
