Hello,

I'm looking for holiday destination recommendations please. We are a family of 4 including a mature 11 year old and a baby who will be 9 months old at the time. Ideally we would like to go to a country we've not visited together previously but that's not a must. We like high temperatures and usually like a bit of adventure/activity as well as relaxation. I accept there isn't likely to be much activity/adventure on this holiday as it's our first one with this little one so we don't know how it will go - I also accept that really high temperatures isn't a wise idea with a really little one therefore anywhere in the UAE is ruled out. However, we would like to go somewhere that won't require the outdoor pool to be heated. We did Greece in May as a couple a few years ago and found the pool far too cold to swim in.

Places we've visited as a family so far:

Barcelona
Paris
New York
Bali
Singapore
Malaysia
Mauritius
Dubai
Abu Dhabi
Egypt
Switzerland
Turkey
India

Thank you in advance for any recommendations.

Punta Cana Royalton Splash

We did Puglia in early June last year and it was wonderful. Stayed in a traditional trulli with private pool. Around 34c every day, trulli stay cool. Beautiful towns to wander around, gorgeous beaches. Can't say much about exciting stuff as that isn't our thing, but very family friendly especially restaurants in the evening.

I don’t see how the water temp will be warm in the Med in May/June. So maybe look at the Caribbean, Mexico or Florida. Caribbean would be best if you choose islands where there are ferries so you get alternative places to see. A baby will slow you down to be honest.

Sorry I don't know why I didn't receive a notification for the responses on this thread. I hadn't thought of Puglia so will take a look at that and the Caribbean too. I thought the Caribbean would have been in the start of the rainy season so hadn't considered it. I fully accept that this holiday won't be very adventurous and whilst it may end up being a beach/pool type holiday, it may also be far from relaxing with a then 9 month old! However, it would be nice to have a change of scenery, some nice weather and for somebody else to clean the bedroom, do the laundry, cook etc. :-)

@Fedupfatandfrumpy Rain does occur but rarely all day. Short sharp bursts is most likely. Some islands with lush vegetation get more rain so St Lucia is more prone to rain. The Caribbean doesn’t have a proper rainy season but it gets a bit more humid. It’s still relaxing with great beaches!

How about somewhere in the USA? Arizona would be hot enough for an ungrateful pool at that time of year - some lovely hotels and resorts around Phoenix and Tucson, and plenty of chances for adventure in Sedona, or go to the Grand Canyon? Flagstaff area is great but cooler,

TheEverdelightfulsamantha · 19/03/2023 07:16

Unheated, not ungrateful 😂

California would also be lovely in May / June

Jordan. it is really special. Private driver is totally affordable. You can see Petra (of course!) and spend a night or two in a glamping pod in the Wadi Rum (red desert). Food is gorgeous and highly affordable and flight times short.

North Africa or central or southern Italy.

My first thought would be the length of journey travelling with young children. I guess you will be travelling from UK. If you are looking for warm pools, seas - the best family friendly option is Hurgada, Eygpt. Not too far to travel and a fantastic choice of hotels.
The other would be Turkey, huge choice to suit whatever your needs. The food is always excellent. Both countries offer reasonably priced holidays.

The minimum 12 hour trek for other far east or Indian Ocean holidays would mean you need to take at least 10 -14 days holiday to allow for about 2 days of travelling. Remember-from waking up, getting to airport-2 hour checkin, any transfers, etc. all adds up and not good for children no matter how well behaved they are.

I think Egypt is too hot in June. May is hot too. We used to go to France and Northern Spain for nice weather in early summer. We don’t do excessively hot!

Yes, these countries are hot but OP has hot destinations on their list:
Bali
Singapore
Malaysia
Mauritius
Dubai
Abu Dhabi
Egypt
Turkey
India

We took our kids to Cuba, Egypt and Dom Rep. The kids loved sand, perfect warm sea, pool and plenty of shade. Greece, Turkey - pools were freezing in May and bearable in June.
If you want to avoid hot weather, Europe is the best destination in Spring time.

I think with a 9 month old baby, where you go might matter with regard to extreme heat. Caribbean isn’t as baking as Egypt or India in May/June. We didn’t travel out of Europe when DDs were babies. We did easy trips. When they were a bit older we did summer holidays in France snd then Spain. Then worldwide. Yes, DDs enjoyed pools and sea but we found they were ok in June. Not May. May is ok for Caribbean though. We liked smaller islands.
