'Active' holiday ideas in Europe for October.

Am looking for ideas for somewhere to go that isnt a package holiday for October. Warm enough that we can do stuff but not too warm.

It will be me and DC's age 16 and 15.

Things we have done before and loved are things like hikes, swimming in rivers and lakes, jeep safaris, kayaking, waterfalls. DC1 has ADHD and Autism and cant bear holidays where we are just sitting around. If we can have all of these and be near a nice city that would be great too.

Any suggestions?

Lucerne in Switzerland. There’s loads to to:
Boat trip on the lake
Mount Pilatus (cable car, walks, toboggan)
Bürgenstock Cliff Path
Mount Rigi
Walk around Lungerersee
Mount Titlis (suspension bridge, walks, gondola, rotating cable car, zip line, downhill scooters etc…)
Day trip to Zurich (Lindt world of chocolate) and then on to Rhine Falls
Stanserhorn Cabrio
Sattel and Stoos
Stoos Fronalpstock

we did all of this by public transport.

Bay of Naples? Path of the Gods, Vesuvius, Pompeii, boat trips.
Sicily - jeep tours on Etna, Alacantra gorge. Lots of ruins and beautiful towns.

Would you consider booking a “package”? I’ve heard good things about Much Better Adventures but haven’t booked with them yet myself.

Otherwise, Italy is fabulous in October and heaps to do, and probably any southern European country as well. Switzerland is famous for amazing outdoors, or you could go cycling along the Danube in Austria.

Duinrell in Holland - theme park adjacent to it plus good swimming pool. Amsterdam, the beach, cycle paths etc all nearby.

Sunsail holidays / Mark Warner etc - learn to sail, windsurf etc

My teens would love that place in Lanzarote! Have you been there @FinallyHere ?

@massistar

Yes, I'm part of a walking group, we spend a well there together in late September most years ( thanks, covid).

It's appeal pretty wide, really. I can hardly think of any sport which is not represented, at elite and recreational level. The food is lovely, good range of restaurants and self catering. The apartments lovey and the wellness centre pretty terrific, too.

I've met families who have been going together for ages. Pretty ideal for multi generational appeal.

We did Hintertux in Austria and there they have mountains, cable car, snow all year, ice Palace, white water rafting, cycling etc, exact things vary by season and flew into Innsbruck which could be city link.

Also doing Azores which has all that minus the City but you can fly via Porto or Lisbon or island hop.

I love Club La Santa. We’ve been the last few Octobers - so much to do if you’re in to your sports. Weather was perfect too.

The Azores, not sure what the weather is like there in October, though.

Neilson.

Absolutely brilliant activity holidays. Just pick the resort - they have them in many places.
