Summer holiday European flights

Rome specifically. Im quite well versed in booking transatlantic flights knowing when prices tend to rise and fall, but what's the deal with European flights for summer holidays? Are they cheapest when they release? A bit later? Sales in the year? Are they released about 11 months prior like US flights?

Around September easyJet and similar companies will release the following summer.
It's usually cheaper then but do check companies like BA. Can often be cheaper.
