Can't decide on a holiday destination! Which would you pick?

Going around and around and around in circles trying to decide on holiday destination for June.

Option 1. 3 nights in Singapore, 9 nights Koh Samui. Fly premium economy.
Option 2. 10 nights in the Caribbean. Grenada? Tobago? Saint Lucia? Maybe two islands over 12/13 nights. Fly business class.
Option 3. Mexico City for 3-4 nights. 8 nights on Cancun coast. Fly business class.

Option 1 and 2 are my favourite. We love history and pretty beaches. Good local food. Don't want to just stay in places that are 'corporate'. Mexico is a bit concerning re safety.

Option 1 for me as I think it’s a great mix of destinations.

I’m not sure it’s the best time to hit the Caribbean, but saying that we had a lovely time in Antigua one June.

Option 2 can't wait to go back to St Lucia.

I love love love SE Asia. Thailand is fab.

For me though, Caribbean has the edge slightly. If you stay in the right place, it feels a bit less away from the hordes.

Thailand is spoilt slightly by its proximity to Australia in my eyes… when we were there last, a man on the table beside us started telling us that the only reason he came from Australia to Thailand was that he could have a girl for the week, and that they respected him…. Sad really…

It's a nice problem to have !

For food -definitely Thailand - though given the choice I'd go to the mainland rather than Koh Samui (although loved Ang Thong marine park). It will be rainy season in Phuket so I'd probably go to Bangkok (more interesting than Singapore) and the attractions round Kanchanaburi for history.

For the best beaches I'd go to the Caribbean - I've been to Grenada and St Lucia from your list.

I've not been to Mexico.

Option 1

Sorryyoufeelthatway · 10/03/2023 22:17

Kinda done all 3. Singa is wonderful, Samui a dump, full of sex tourists.
Mexico City interesting but dangerous.
So on balance 2.

Sorryyoufeelthatway · 10/03/2023 22:18

Soery just read thread! Agreed Bangkok is great, but find another beachy area rather than Samui or Phuket.

HundredMilesAnHour · 10/03/2023 22:23

Option 2.

I used to live in Asia so have visited most places there. Used to go to Samui for the weekend quite a lot. I like it but I wouldn't travel all the way from the UK to visit, and definitely not for 8 days. Same for quite a few places in Asia that people spend a lot of money on travelling to and they're really not all that.

Much prefer the Caribbean although I'd probably go to French St Martin given a free choice.

As for Cancun, heavens no!

We’ve been to St Lucia and previously to kitts and Nevis, staying mostly on Nevis. Much preferred the kitts and Nevis trip as felt very safe travelling around on our own, hired a car for kitts and took the ferry to Nevis. St Lucia just didn’t feel as safe, we weren’t in a resort hotel. The hotel we stayed in was lovely…but I wonder if St Lucia is more geared to resorts.

tangotildawn · 11/03/2023 12:01

Thanks for the views! @BarrelOfOtters How did you find Nevis? We were initially really drawn to the idea, but then read that it's boring and food is insanely expensive.

I do get the view that St Lucia is more for staying at high end hotels.

the reason we said Koh Samui, is that in June/July, everywhere else in Thailand is rainy so don't want to get caught up in that.

Dislike Caribbean so not 2.

Rainy as you say for option 1.

Why Mexico City? Is this an air miles thing? South of Cancun is good eg Akumal/Tulum. Swim with whale sharks nr Cancun, with turtles nr Akumal and Sian Kaan biosphere is utterly magical. Fantastic Mayan ruins for your history fix and beaches are fabulous. Mexican food? What can I say? Deeeelicious!
