I would like to come up with a bucket list of holidays for me and DD 7. Is it worth taking her abroad at this age or would she not appreciate it (loves swimming, beach and animals). Am I better doing uk trips and places abroad when she is a teen?

I think kids benefit from all sorts of experiences that are appropriately geared for their age and there's definitely no harm in experiencing what's on your doorstep as well as visiting overseas. I'd probably wait until she's older before you do any big bucket list items such as a safari as I don't recall much about holidays at her age (although we never did anything as exciting as a safari!)

I remember my first holiday abroad when I was seven so well. We went island hopping in Greece and spent the middle weekend in Athens. I remember getting a late flight and waiting a few hours for the ferry and feeling very tired. Then when I got on the ferry the wind woke me I up and I loved the feeling.
I remember eating stuffed peppers or chicken and rice for dinner and the taverna owners always giving me the biggest portion. I can still think about the smell as walked around in the evening before going to dinner.
I remember bopping about in the warm sea with my rubber ring and a visit to the tiniest island you could see pretty much the whole island all at once. I loved the miniature churches dotted everywhere and lighting candles in them.
That holiday was the start of my love of travel that I have been fortunate enough to pass on to my own DC.

At 7 she’s more than old enough to enjoy it and remember it.
