Gran Canaria recommendations

Having given up on Montreal as per my other thread, we've ended up booking flights to Gran Canaria. Any recommendations for hotels or which part of the island for a family with 2 kids aged 11 and 8 who love swimming?

I was looking at the Taurito area as there's a water park there but seen other reviews that suggest it's really boring there as it's basically just hotels / holiday lets.

Is there a part of the island with nice beaches and some character?

Puerto Mogan the next bay round is charming. Nice beach, marina and fishing harbour. Low key and very civilised. Easy to get a ferry for day trip, submarine adventure for the kids, safe bay for swimming, and the old fashioned water park is the next bay around.

Lots of restaurants beachfront and in the marina. Would be boring for teenagers but fine for your young ones.

Popular family apartments are The Cordial Mogan Valle that has several pools and good sized two bed apartments with huge terraces with lots of activities and a handy supermarket virtually opposite. Different board options if you want them. Easy walk to the beach and harbour area. Or the more expensive Cordial Mogan Playa hotel next door.

We've been to the Radisson in Puerto Mogan twice and always had a good time. Hotel has good pools and great family rooms. Nice area too.

@friendlycat just wanted to say thanks again for the recommendation above - we've just come back from a week's stay at Cordial Mogan Valle apartments and both accoms and Puerto Mogan locations were fantastic! We had a great holiday.

Glad you had a wonderful holiday. It is lovely there. We go at Christmas and always stay in the harbour area. Bliss.

I hope you had lovely weather as well.

We did - not too hot at all, although the sun was baking and we managed to get a bit burnt in spite of the judicious application of factor 50 sunscreen!
