Cyclades Islands in August - has the wind ruined your holiday

We like the look of the Cyclades Islands. Are the August winds really that bad? The islands surely wouldn't be so busy if so? Would be useful to know if they have spoiled anyones holiday/stopped them returning. Have heard Ionian Islands escape the wind but are full of wasps. TIA

We went to Skopelos in August and stayed in the mountains, the wind and wasps were bloody awful I can't lie. We had to drive down to the coast every day to the sheltered side of the island which was lovely but definitely worth bearing in mind! If you're staying on the coast it might be a totally ok experience

I visited Tinos last year (above Mykonos) and the wind was horrendous. Been to other Cyclades in August and didn’t have the same issue.

No. Done three Augusts on Islands in the Cyclades (approx 3 weeks each time) and returning again this year.
It was something I’d worried about before we went.

We've been to Sifnos a number of times in August and while it can be windy, where we stayed (Kamares) was pretty sheltered. We take clips to keep our towels on the sunloungers and actually, in the height of summer, were quite grateful for the breeze. We have only been really sandblasted once!

Tavernas tend to be well equipped to deal with any wind, with screens they can put down if needed.

The only downside we found was that if you are travelling by ferry and likely to be prone to seasickness, you may be better off getting a bigger slower ferry rather than the smaller faster boats.
