Do I even want to go on holiday anymore

I’ve looked at every single possible destination imaginable, and I still can’t decide

OP posts:

First world problems much.

First world problems much.

People who live in the first world are allowed to have first world problems

Twilightstarbright · 07/03/2023 07:12

It can be overwhelming, but I’m going to tell you something valuable:

THERE IS MORE THAN ONE RIGHT OPTION

I spend hours looking and planning but there’s lots of great options that work for me in that circumstance- just book and start looking forward to it.

What do you suggest OP should be posting about?

I've got to the point I'd rather stay at home these days, hopefully sitting in the sun with a good book and a pot of tea 😁

drpet49 · 07/03/2023 07:16

Don’t go then. Problem solved.

If posts about holidays offend you, perhaps a forum where posters are overwhelmingly from the first world isn’t the place for you?

stardust40 · 07/03/2023 07:19

What sort of holiday are you looking for? We've found that for summer beach holidays it's made very little difference which country we are in as long as it's hot and the hotel has good tripadvisor reviews I go for it!

BartsLongLostBro · 07/03/2023 07:21

Whats on your short list?
Pic the place with the luxuriest bathroom. Or the longest transfer from airport. Or the one thats middle range. Just pick any! :) Enjoy your hol.

daffodilandtulip · 07/03/2023 07:22

I find you could look forever. You just have to bite the bullet and pick one. I take a few screenshots as I'm searching and go back to them over a few days to see which one still looks appealing.

JamSandle · 07/03/2023 07:22

Try not to overthink it :)

Newyeardietstartstomorrow · 07/03/2023 07:22

What about a solo UK activity holiday? I don't mean exercise or anything daft, but something like an art, photography or writing retreat?

Booradley23 · 07/03/2023 07:26

I agree! I normally know what I want and book it in an evening. I enjoy the process.

so far I’ve spent weeks going round in circles! We are limited to school holidays. The holiday we hoped to do that was cancelled due to lockdown costs a third more. Holidays in Spain are coming in between £2-4k.

I’ve come to the conclusion it’s so costly that it’s going to be a huge pressure to enjoy every minute and not sure it’s going to be worth it. I love holidays, whether it’s a weekend at Butlins or abroad, but not feeling it this year at all.

TheySeeMeRowling · 07/03/2023 07:28

If nowhere is speaking to you then don’t go. You will feel differently next year. I’m not going abroad this year but we’re doing a ‘once in a lifetime’ holiday next year. We will just do day trips and weekends away this year.

LadyHarmby · 07/03/2023 07:30

Narrow it down to three and pick one out of the hat. If you’re mildly disappointed with what you get, do it again.

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 07/03/2023 07:42

We never go on holiday just to be somewhere. We go to do a couple of particular activities which we can't easily do from home. Like skiing but not that.

So our choices are based on where we can do that, sometimes a new place and sometimes a place we have enjoyed before.

Ohhelpicantthinkofaname · 07/03/2023 09:20

To narrow it down I pick two places I want to visit that year (there are loads of places but just pick 2) and then only look holidays to those places.

im on a fairly tight budget so I go for the cheapest place that’s seems to be in a good enough location with decent reviews.

First world problems much.

First world? That implies other orders of world. Do you still talk about the Third World? And can you only have things you are a bit disgruntled by or discombobulated by if you are eg a Sudanese refugee? ‘First world problems’ should be retired, if nothing else as being the badge of a witless, sanctimonious arse.
Anyway, I see what the op is saying. For me, I think it’s partly age. Lots of lovely places to go, but bloody hell, holiday travel is a pretty horrible, expensive and grinding business these days.

Vanillalime · 07/03/2023 20:20

What type of places do you normally visit? Beach, mountains, lakes, cities? Long haul or short haul?

Who is travelling & when?

Give us some clues & im sure we can think of somewhere fun!

Joahne · 07/03/2023 20:37

I posted it here in the travel forum for that reason! You don’t have to read it if it annoys you.

I think part of the problem is that I don’t know what I want really. Travelling with dh who really fancies just flopping onto a beach for two weeks, but I did that for ten days recently for a friend’s wedding (in Fiji!). So think I’m a bit bored of the beach, but equally can’t imagine not going to the beach.

The comment about picking the place with the best bathroom made me chuckle. We are having our bathrooms done at the moment, so a nice bathroom actually is high up on my list.

Where is good for nice hotels that don’t break the bank? Something 4-5* for less than £200 a night room only?

Slovenia. Stay in the Hotel Jezero in Bohinj.

Grapefrui · 08/03/2023 12:09

I start with the flights, find what’s affordable, and go from there. There’s no right or wrong answer. It’s impossible to know which holidays you will enjoy the most.

wow looks great!!
i know what you mean its deciding what you want then seeing if what you want is affordable.
i cannot lie on a beach for a whole week few days is ok so we try to do a combination for example amalfi coast plus pompeii
southern spain plus granada etc that seems to work for us ok .
it certainly seems everything is a lot more expensive this year
