Wizz Air or Vueling??

Which would you go for? We've got got to chose between 2 flights - from LGW to Rome FCO if it makes a difference. One at a slightly better time with Wizz Air and one slightly less convenient time but with Vueling. Price is pretty much the same.

Wizz were voted worst airline recently (Google it). We flew Vueling last year and they were good although I imagine it’s not a direct flight to Italy.

DonnaHaywood · 06/03/2023 19:02

Wizz don't have a great reputation but every time I've flown with them has been fine. The only annoyance last time was that I could only choose handbag only, or handbag+10kg cabin bag+20kg hold bag, when I only needed the larger cabin bag.

I'd compare the price with luggage included, and if still the same, pick the better time. I think all the budget airlines have similar risks of problems, little support with delays etc.

In my experience they are both crap.

Does Easyjet not fly that route ?

Thanks - it is direct to Rome 🙂

It does but it's 3x price for a morning flight 🙄

Posted too soon - agree that easyJet would be my preference.

Wizz air are terrible. Last year they cancelled our flight with three hours notice. They then refused to refund us saying they would only give us credit. We had to get our bank to do a charge back. Then they ignored our flight delay/cancellation compensation claim and only paid us one we took them to the small claims court. I will never book with them again.

Oh thank you - I'll check out the luggage options as well need 2x20-ish kg

Really shocked at this - we flew wizz air last year and were sceptical but found them to be fantastic! Check in was super quick while every other airline had ridiculous queues. Plane was clean and comfortable and no delays. Never flown vueling to compare

WhatsitWiggle · 06/03/2023 19:27

I flew Wizz last year and will never choose them again. Paid for priority check in, both out and return the queue was longer than normal check in! On-board service was non existent and the landing on the way out was so heavy.

The only thing going for it was it was much cheaper than Easyjet.

Reviews are awful.

Pootles34 · 06/03/2023 19:30

We had a dreadful experience with wizz air, then they did not want to know and were thoroughly useless in the complaints process. Thankfully the ombudsman agreed and made them refund us -and they missed the deadline to do that too

Rauha · 06/03/2023 19:36

Wizz Air is deplorable.

Verite1 · 06/03/2023 19:43

We flew Wizz air last year and they were great. Check in was really speedy and no delays. It’s almost impossible to contact them in advance though.

Georgyporky · 06/03/2023 19:47

Check the cost of baggage. We booked a holiday with a choice of Wizz from our nearest airport, or EJ just a bit further. Wizz wanted £70 pp per leg ! We went for EJ - can't remember the cost, but nothing like £280.

guessmyusername · 06/03/2023 20:09

We were booked with Vueling but due to covid the flight was cancelled. Viewing refused to refund us, or rather they said they were refunding us but it was never received. Our credit card stepped in and refunded. Not the easiest of companies to speak to.

holidayhonesty · 06/03/2023 20:52

Thanks all. Bit of a mixed bag for both of them!

I found Wizz fine when I flew with them, no problems at all

Goawayangryman · 06/03/2023 23:21

I just book whoever is cheapest. Have not had any problems with wizz in the past and easyJet aren't far off flag carriers these days, and sometimes more.

TheVanguardSix · 06/03/2023 23:28

I've flown Vueling and have never had an issue. Neither has my son. We've both flown Vueling to and from Spain. That said, like Wizz, the reviews aren't fabulous. And!! You need to know this with Vueling: Oftentimes you may not receive a pre-boarding email reminding you about 'tomorrow's' flight. And sometimes, when you go online to check in, your flight won't even exist. Don't panic. You just have to have your booking reference number and check-in in person at the airport. It's better that way. In-person check-in is the way to go with Vueling.
I can't comment on Wizz. Budget airlines are all a bit 'ass' as my DD says. But some are more 'ass' than others. I still think Easyjet's the best one by far.
Personally, I'd go with the flight scheduled at the better time. It's all much of a muchness once you're on a budget airline. All of them are a bit risky.

guzzywuzzy · 07/03/2023 19:19

Have only used Wizz out of these two and it was absolutely fine...I'd even go so far as to say they were super helpful when I added another of my kids to the booking and gave him seat allocation and luggage allowance for free so he could be with us. I think the point is that these super Budget airlines are fine when the going is good but a nightmare when things go wrong.

TheBirdintheCave · 07/03/2023 19:23

Loved Vueling. I'd never flown with them before but they were great :) Efficient, lovely crew and a clean plane. Their family tickets which include luggage allowance and seat bookings were good value as well.
