Short haul self cater vs long haul hotel

So I’m at a bit of a loggerheads with dh. He’s been having a hard time at work so we agreed we’ll both take leave in June for up to two weeks.

His idea is that we fly to the Amalfi coast or Santorini and rent an airbnb. We then self cater and eat out a few times as everything is so expensive there.

My idea is that we fly long haul to Asia. Bali or Thailand, and stay in a 4-5* hotel for the same cost of the airbnb in Italy. Because food is cheap we could eat out every day at local places.

Dh has no interest in going to cheaper short haul destinations, he likes the finer things. Whereas I would rather go further afield to get better value. I also end up doing most of the cooking, and when I’m on holiday, I don’t want to even make the bed.

Self catering only works if both partners do the work in my opinion. We love it but I can happily leave the kitchen to DH and sit down with a book and vice versa.

If I would have to do all the cooking I would go on strike and send my husband on his own.

Two weeks of having to make your own beds, clean, wash up etc. And whilst it's fun going to the market to buy lovely fresh stuff it soon becomes a chore.

Hotel quality in much of South East Asia is amazing. And eating out is so affordable. Only downer is flight time.

"Dh has no interest in going to cheaper short haul destinations, he likes the finer things."

?? But that is precisely what he is suggesting. SC is not a proper holiday.
