Where should we choose in Mallorca?

Looking at Mallorca because our local regional airport is doing flights there and it would be a luxury not to have to travel 2 hours to a UK airport.
DH and I are in our 60s/70s. We have been a few times before but mostly with children.
I want somewhere in the middle between Brits abroad and peaceful idyll.
Nice walks, not fussed about beaches as long as I can swim in the sea. A choice of bars at night but nothing rowdy.
Has to be a hotel with good food and HB as for various reasons DH doesn't wish to eat out.
We won't be hiring a car.

We liked CalaD'Or. We like Playa Blanca.
Any suggestions or tips welcome please.

I liked Puerta Pollensa. The marina was great to look for celebrities. There were lots of lovely restaurants and it was relatively peaceful. However I haven't been there for a while so things have maybe changed. The other side of Mallorca is much quieter I believe.

CampervanKween · 05/03/2023 11:24

I liked Puerto Pollensa and Alcudia very much. That side of the island is beautiful and quieter I think.

Surely2023IsTheYearForMyRainbowBaby · 05/03/2023 11:37

Sa Coma is lovely

weebarra · 05/03/2023 11:39

The north of the island is lovely. Puerto pollensa has always been our go to. Ticks all your boxes.

Maramo · 05/03/2023 11:42

@CampervanKween For no reason I can think of I had Alcudia down as a bit seedy, must have got that wrong, will check it out!
Will look at Sa Coma and PP.
We didn't like Cala Bona or C'an Picafort.

The protour palmeras hotel is lovely. Very clean, friendly staff and nice food. It's a few minutes walking distance to the beach and the beach is lovely. Walk one way and you're in S'Illiot which is around a 25 min walk and walk the other way either along the beach or through a wooded area and you'll come to a Castle fort type place. Which is nice to have a look at. There's also a bar there that serves food and drinks.

Porto Pollensa is supposed to be nicer than Alcudia from everything I've read, it's somewhere I'd like to go as I loved Mallorca. We got the wooden train and tram over to Port de Soller which we loved but I don't know about bars as we had a child with us.

weebarra · 05/03/2023 13:53

I think Puerto Alcudia is a bit more 'brits abroad' but Alcudia itself is gorgeous

Sallycinnamum · 05/03/2023 14:01

We go to Puerto pollensa every year and its great for kids and adults alike.

Lots of fabulous restaurants and a lovely beach. Its a bit hectic in the summer and very hot so I'd go in June or September if you don't need to worry about going in term time.

Alcudia old town is lovely too. Great market and lots of little tapas bars.

Maramo · 05/03/2023 14:06

I thinking of May or June. Def not school holidays.
Some nice hotels Alcudia, I do want a sea view.

Puerto Pollenca with a day trip to Pollenca itself which is beautiful! Also trips to Cala Formentor and Cala San Vincent and the old town of Alcudia. We have had some
wonderful holidays there

PrinnyPree · 05/03/2023 17:42

Another vote for puerto pollensa. Xx Have fun.

Annabananna1 · 05/03/2023 17:46

Puerto pollensa meets all your criteria.
You can also hop on the bus to the old town from there. And a short bus ride (15min) to allcudia as well, I wouldn't stay there myself but nice to have a walk around of an evening.

Badger1970 · 05/03/2023 17:48

Palma is a beautiful place to stay, and less touristy than some of the resorts.

And like others, I'd look at Puerto Pollensa/Pollensa and also Soller - that's a beautiful little town to stay.

sarahb083 · 06/03/2023 12:52

Another vote for Puerto Pollensa. Really lovely.

ovenchips · 06/03/2023 14:20

Puerto Pollensa! Would fit your requirements very nicely. I've been several times and love it. Lovely pine walk (so called as promenade walk is lined with beautiful pine trees) spanning the resort with many nice hotels/bars/restaurants on it. Lovely town square filled with bars/restaurants. And most of all, just has a really special feel. Hard to describe but felt it very strongly and I haven't really felt it in many other places.

jazzybelle · 06/03/2023 14:36

Puerto Pollensa.

Gorgeous place. Everything closes at 12am. So no drunken people shouting in the street. The town square has a lovely market and in the evening it is lit up and there are lots of restaurants around the square. Get accommodation on the Pine Walk or as near as you can. This area has all the amenities. Book trips with your holiday rep or at www.nofrills-excursions.com/destinations/pollensa-port/

Thanks all. PP looks lovely and does tick all the boxes. Have to go with TUI if I'm to fly from local airport.

A few years ago we had a lovely holiday in Cala Ratjada, in the far North East corner. It has a little port and lovely coastal walks. Not well known with Brits, very quiet and calm. We stayed at the Palace, it was lovely, but may have changed since then

Beebumble2 · 06/03/2023 18:29

Just seen that you have to go withTUI, they do go to Cala Ratjarda, their hotel choice looks good, particularly the Platinum one.

TheMildManneredMilitant · 06/03/2023 18:34

PP, and stay near the Pine Walk if you can. Agree with pp who said it has a special feel. Always been there as a family but I'd choose to go there even without kids.
