Egypt

Hi I have a 13 year old asd son and a 6 year old daughter. I was thinking about going to Egypt next year. I didn’t realise it was safe to go there again. I want to visit the pyramids as well as visit the sites, shops and have things for the kids to do. Is it best to go to sham el shiek or hugharda? What’s the food like? What’s the best time to go that’s hot but not too hot? Any experiences or advice will be welcomed.

Think you need to do a bit of research ....the pyramids have got to be a good 8 hours drive away from Sham.

I’d highly recommend Luxor over Cairo, in which case Hurghada is a much better base.
Sharm to Cairo would involve a flight, but I’ve always found internal flights with EgyptAir excellent.

We went to Makadi Bay , near Hurghada and flew to the pyramids for a long but top ten of my days out. We went one Easter and the weather was perfect, not too hot or humid.

Thankyou I was looking at hurghurda and then saw flights to the pyramids from Sharm el sheik and they seemed to have more there.

I can recommend discoveregypt.co.uk for a multi-centre holiday. We used them last year for a tailor-made package that involved 5 flights, 2 cruises, a city-break, multiple excursions & all private transfers.
Extremely well-organised & a lot cheaper than if we'd booked all the elements ourselves.

The amount of hassle you get in Egypt is unlike anything else I've encountered in the world, we also got food poisoning eating in what was supposed to be a 5 hotel (5 in Egypt is like 3* in the rest of the world). The pyramids are in a really built up area and I found it all very depressing with badly treated animals etc. Flying to Sharm to then fly to the pyramids and then back to sharm would be mad IMO. It's also not somewhere I would take a six year dd myself.

Stay in Luxor and get a day excursion by plane to Cairo and do the Pyramids and the Egyptian Museum.

Take a mask because the pollution is bad.

Look at family trips with companies like Explore if you don't mind group trips. 7

The Cairo -in-a-day trips from H or Sharm are very efficient and commonly booked as long as it is by plane, not by land. Of course, you will be too tired to do much else the next day. Sharm is a nicer place than Hurghada but Hurghada is better connected to other sites within Egypt in the South.
