Hi Mumsnetters,

my partner is lucky enough to get a further six weeks off during my mat leave. we want to use this opportunity to go away for a long period 4/5/6 week in june. we were looking atthe poblenou area of barcelona (thinking was beach and city so more than enough to keep us and 3 year old occupied - parks, soft plays etc) but we have left it to late and there is no affordable accommodation at that time and july - august it too hot. any ideas of other destinations that might fit the bill? ? The main issue is that we don't drive so we can't get accommodation outside of towns etc or we will be stuck.

What sort of budget do you have?

Have you thought about going somewhere on a boat? A 3 month old on a long haul flight sounds like hell for you, but if your baba is a sleeper then you might be ok. Would you be flying in First or Business?

The air B and B we were looking at in Barcelona were around £3k for a month (discounted as it’s a long stay) Flights we’ve got a lot of points we can use so not too worried about those

The idea of kids that age on a boat would give me the heebie jeebies. You'd never be able to do anything because you'd always be keeping an eye on them!

I'd go long haul. The oldest is old enough to watch screens and 6 months is ideal - will still fit in a bassinet and not yet crawling. It's a rare chance to be able to go away for so long. I'd go to Canada or Australia, base myself somewhere which works logistically not driving and then make the most of public transport to get to more sights.

Slovenia could work. Stay in Ljubljana and use the very good bus system for trips out the Bled, Bohinje, some of the caves etc. Or split the time between the capital and Kranjska Gora in the north. It won’t be as meltingly hot there as other parts of Europe.

Have you thought this through OP? I went to Greece last year in from June 10th and it was boiling.

Holidaying with kids isn't the same as pre child. I am saying this as a single mum who did a long haul and I travel yearly with DS alone.

2 weeks is enough tbh.
