Slovenia

We (family of 4, children 14 and 9) are going to Slovenia at the end of August for 9 nights and due to times this works out to be 7 whole days.

I'm wondering if it's worth just focusing on the lakes and soca river plus Ljubljana as we fly into the city? Or the other option would be to move around and also go down to the coast in Piran- just thinking this might be too much?
We ideally would not hire a car and rely on public transport- has anyone been here and can tell use what's best?

Thanks in advance

With 7 days, I’d stick to the lakes etc. Ljubljana is a pretty little place but I don’t think there’s much to detain you beyond a day. You’ll no doubt be around Kranjska Gora at some point so the wooden Russian Chapel nearby is worth a visit. You can nip down to the Postojna caves from Ljubljana for a day trip. If you tried to take in the coast too, I think you’d be spreading yourself a bit thin.

From what I heard from our guides when I went last year, the “coast” is minimal and not worth going to.

The buses are the best public transport. The trains don’t go to lots of places. Buses are cheap too.

I agree that Ljubljana isn’t worth more than a day. I spent 24 hours there due to a flight change and that was definitely enough.

I'd have to disagree about the coast. It's short, yes, but beautiful. We had 3 nights in Piran on our trip and loved it.
