We want to go to a Greek island with our 15 year old dd .
I suffer from claustrophobia and panic attack and sometimes the airport can set me off .

i know they will all be very busy, but which are the most comfortable eg have good air conditioning etc.

Rhodes is lovely and the airport is perfectly fine, we went in the height of summer too. I find UK airports far more stressful than foreign ones tbh.

Out of the ones I’ve been to Heraklion Airport in Crete stands out as being the most suitable - but like PP said, they are all generally fine compared to UK airports.

That being said, I’d avoid Kefalonia. One of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been and I love it there - but the airport is quite small.

Santorini airport was very nice. Tiny wee, more like a bus station, but modern and open.

Springisclose · 26/02/2023 11:46

Santorini is small but very modern and airy. Lots of seating.

Also found Heraklion/Crete fine.

Many Greek airports still have an outdoor terrace on departures too, if you need some space and air

Skiathos - its a tiny airport - but the only thing is that when you fly home you usually have all the passengers in about two waiting rooms and then you board - so its busy(ish) by you can just find a place to sit against a wall away from everyone. But the airport itself is tiny and easy.

Thank you Santorini looks beautiful 😍

The there option would be to fly into Athens and then take a ferry from there - but I can't remember too much if it felt claustrophobic

I wouldn't do this. The Adriatic can be pretty rough. The only time I went to the Greek Islands I deliberately chose one without an airport. The ferry journey was fine on the way out but grim on the way back and I still had the flight to endure.

Not Mykonos !

Kos has just overhauled their terminal . It’s really modern now. Check in is super spacious . After security you just follow a sort of wide corridor shopping centre style aisle of restaurants and shops to the gates .
Skiathos has really short runway - they used stop again at Thessaloniki to refuel as they don’t take off with a full tank . Not fun if you don’t like takeoff and landings . That was over a decade ago - not sure if that’s the case now .

I'd avoid Heraklion. It's very busy and every time we've been there we've had to queue for a ages outside the terminal to get in on the return flight. Not great in the beating sun!

If the flight is also an issue, I’d avoid Samoa - we liked it but the approach in was more dramatic than I expected!
