Flying to Cologne in May can anyone recommend off airport car hire ie a local firm. Thank you.

Think I may be too late! But try Virtuo. It's been around for a while now and is much cheaper than most of the Hertz's and Enterprise's out there. You can get really quite nice cars like Teslas with free charging, or Mercedes A-class for a bit less. The nice plus is that you simply unlock their cars with your phone - so you avoid all the stress of going up to a foreign desk where they try to pressurise you into buying insurances etc. The only downside is they're not in all the places the big rental companies are - but they should be in Cologne.
