Mobile use in the Philippines

I am travelling to the Philippines and looking for advice on whether I can purchase a sim card I can use over there for data? Can I order one with data pre loaded? Will use it for 2 weeks, mainly will be on wifi but would like it as a back up if I need to order a taxi. Thanks.

Not sure about buying one before you go, but when I went I'm sure I bought one out there! Took an old phone with me to put the SIM card in though, can't remember why 😬 that's not really helpful sorry!

I was thinking of using an old phone and putting a sim in there.

I recently spent a month in Thailand and just bought and esim. Cost like $20 for the whole time we were there and give me a Thai number.
