There’s a fab episode of Travel Man in Dubrovnik with a nice hotel. On Netflix.

Hotel Kompass is so lovely! Easy bus into the old town - went in 2018 and would return in a heartbeat.

TimingIsABitch · 25/02/2023 07:34

We stayed in a small apartment right in the old town, was perfect for staggering back at night. We went to Hotel More for an afternoon and sat outside quaffing espresso martinis and looked round the cave bar but glad we stayed right in the centre.

Beware of airbnbs that look super close to the centre but are actually up 3 million steps! Dubrovnik is surrounded by sheer mountain . Tbf the views over the town and sea were amazing.

Lol yes some steps were involved! Good for the thighs 😂

We stayed in Fresh Sheets, which I think is now called The Byron. It was a gorgeous B&B, in a building owned by the Vatican.

Valamar Lacroma is at Lapad which is a short bus ride away and has amazing breakfast and a pool and sauna area.

BeeBB · 26/02/2023 16:10

We stayed in Hotel Lapad booked it with Jet2. It was fairly cheap and cheerful a short Uber ride into the centre of Dubrovnik.

This worked well as a good base for us. We got up early and it was nice to come back to the hotel and be able to relax by the pool mid to late afternoon.

We visited around April time. I wasn’t too keen on Lapad itself as an area to wander around on an evening and they were redoing the waterfront which will be fab when its finished.

This one.

Its a lovely old building and looks lovely iluminated at night but doesn’t look quite as big or as grand as that in real life. The room was quite big more like a Premier Inn than very opulent with a lot of brown decor but it was a good base, plentiful breakfast and more than adequate for us. We were also on the back of the hotel so had no view.

We loved Dubrovnik President Valamar Collection Hotel. Very clean, lovely albeit stoney beach, amazing buffet breakfast and you can catch a bus from right outside to the old town.

There’s also a wonderful walk along the coast to Lapad which has lots of restaurants.

Mrsorganmorgan · 26/02/2023 19:54

I've been there- fabulous place!

AmandaHoldensLips · 26/02/2023 20:04

Use über if you need a cab as the taxi drivers are a bunch of rip-off merchants (and can be quite intimidating about it).

By Dylan Thomas from Under Milk Wood.

The Rixos - the sea view rooms have a massive outdoor area. Or Pucic Palace if you want trad right in the heart of all the action. You really have to stay in Old Dubrovnik for good food but it will cost you. It is even more expensive now with Euros since Jan 2023.

Lapad is cheap but not that nice, the food options are kind of crap and you can't walk into town so the price of ubers adds up.
Cavtat is cute but definitely does not feel a part of Dubrovnik.

rookiemere · 26/02/2023 21:42

The number 6 bus goes from Lapad to the city walls every 10 minutes and takes 15-20 minutes. It cost about £1.50 per trip, or you get some included it you buy a Dubrovnik 3 day pass ( worth it if you are doing the City walls) or an Uber was about £8.

We went in September and this time stayed at the Valamar President so deck chairs at the beach included. I liked the contrast meant a beach holiday and a city break rolled into one.

If sunloungers, dinner buffets and culture-lite is your vibe then Lapad will save you money. if you want to feel immersed in history and culture then only the Old Town will do.

Thanks for the catty put down. Meow!! We felt this was the best of both worlds.

We were up at 6.30am and saw Dubrovnik waking up, we had a marvellous time sampling the delights of Dubrovnik by day but after an early start by 3pm I was in dire need of relaxing and putting my feet up by the pool on a sun lounger.

After a refreshing shower and getting changed we headed back out into Dubrovnik again for the evening.

Lilybetsey · 27/02/2023 21:34

Villa Dubrovnik .. with its own boat to take you to town !

Gorgeous our three days like nice English sunny summer days but the wind and rain kicked in on our last night and it was so windy the next day it was touch and go whether our flight would take off.
