Is Menorca good for holiday?

Thinking about booking a holiday to Menorca, maybe Cala n Bosch, will this be good for a 1 year old? Is there much to do there?

I went there last year on holiday but my DD was 15 and my DS11. It is a lovely place and a nice beach. The main focus is the marina which has bars and restaurants and some shops. Overall it is quite quiet so probably ideal for a 1 year old.

Menorca is great for young children as its much more about beaches than nightclubs! We took our now grown children there from the age of 2 through to about 15 and they asked to go there when given choices as they got older.

PizzaPastaWine · 24/02/2023 01:05

I love Menorca. My least favourite resort is Cala n Bosh. It has a tacky feel compared to other parts of the island.

We took our DS when he was nearly 2, hired a car and explored all over… it was fantastic! Loads of lovely beaches and some child-friendly attractions. Lots of nice play parks I seem to remember too!

Yes it's great. We went may half term think. Stayed in that resort at the former tui holiday Village and hired a car. Perfect for little ones. Get to the more famous beaches early.

Do you have any recommendations of hotels?

We stayed at the Marinda Gardens. It is all inclusive but you get an apartment so more space

RTHJ14 · 24/02/2023 08:15

when my kids were little we used to go to Menorca a lot, and we really like the little places in the south of the island, Binibeca area. The Occidental in Punta Prima is a great hotel with kids xx

modgepodge · 24/02/2023 08:19

We have booked to go there this summer with our 4 year old! I think to the tui hotel mentioned above. We just want an all inclusive and beach so I think it will suit us fine.

Car hire has gone through the roof in the past few years though - have previously hired a car for I’m sure significantly less than £100 for a week. Cheapest option this time is £300!!! And I’m nervous about the car seat situation for my daughter 😬

Our first three holidays with young DC were to Menorca. Cala Galdana, Punta Prima and D'en Castelle.
Loved it.

Firstbaby1234 · 24/02/2023 10:25

thank you! I was also looking at cala n forcat but I’ve never been to Menorca so don’t know where is best! We just really want a beach, a pool, a few resturant and bars for the night time! X

Cala Galdana and Arenal d'en Castel are nice resorts.

My advice would be to hire a car. Driving is easy and the little coves are just beautiful.

Imnoonesfool · 24/02/2023 11:20

I lived there for a bit when I was a kid and now own a villa over there so I am biased.

As others have said it’s perfect for young families. Cala n Bosch is nice, I don’t think it’s tacky it’s just more geared towards holiday goers. Arenal d’en Castell is my fave tourist resort and the beach is fantastic for little ones, very safe.

Cala Galdana is beaut but I find it really busy in the summer hols so if you are going either side of that it’s lovely.

We have been going for years and my older teens still enjoy it and cannot wait until we head back out at Easter.

I agree with @PizzaPastaWine ’My least favourite resort is Cala n Bosh. It has a tacky feel compared to other parts of the island.’ Use Google Street View to have a look around yourself, or go onto the Menorca TripAdvisor forum.

However, there are many lovely resorts across Menorca.

We loved Punta Prima in Menorca when the kids were little. Small resort with a sandy beach and good bus service to other areas you can explore. We stayed in a villa but the hotel nearby had a lovely kids splash area which anyone could use.

Escapingmadness · 24/02/2023 11:53

We.visited Menorca with small children. We stayed at the quiet end of Son Bou in a small villa with a pool. It's was lovely.

The beach was fabulous but a long walk, or drive, away because it borders a nature reserve so we had to walk into town to access it. That was over 20 years ago though!

We.hired a car and we're able to visit a lot of the island in our 14 days and we used the car for the beach.

Son bou the town centre itself was OK and had everything we wanted back then and it was where you could get direct access to the beach. There were quite a few places to eat in the town plus we ate a.few times at the buffet of the hotel that was near our villa and bbqs by our villa pool.

We.were due to return to stay at Cala Galdana when the pandemic hit and so we got our money back, and not the holiday. We.intended to walk to Macerella but our children are.adults now.

Sorry, don't know why that link posted like that! It's called Occidental Menorca if you want to Google it

illtakeit · 24/02/2023 12:01

We're looking at Menorca for this summer. I was also wondering if it's OK for kids as we have a 3 year old. Happy I came across this thread.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 24/02/2023 13:10

I'm more of a Majorca person, but we went to Menorca for a change recently. Seems lovely and quiet for family holidays. We stayed in Cala en Porter though which is quite hilly- the beach is a long way down and it made me feel for those with buggies and small children so I'd avoid that area.

So1invictus · 25/02/2023 10:17

I've been to Menorca 3 times and would return in a heartbeat. Cala Galdana all 3 times. The only resort I've seen that looks a bit tacky wax Santo Tomas but I confess I only went through it on a bus.

thismeansnothing · 25/02/2023 10:32

Love it. We stopped at Viva Menorca (now Zafiro Menorca) with DD. Not too far a walk to the 2 beaches or marina. Right next to the bus stop for a day trip to ciutadella. Nice restaurants around the marina for a meal out for a change from the hotel. Opportunity for boat trips that leave from the marina. It's fab and we're looking to go back this year

Imnoonesfool · 28/04/2023 09:45

I’ve just returned from a few days. Out of season so the beaches are empty but it was as gorgeous as ever
