April holiday

We are wanting to get away in April. Figure the Canary Islands are our only option because we want it to be warm enough for the children to enjoy the pool. Ideally looking for a shortish transfer of under an hour (happy to pay for a private transfer if it’s faster). All inclusive to make life easy. Any recommendations?

Check the pool is heated, many aren't!

We went with TUI, one of their own hotels

We did Tenerife at Easter a few years ago and it was freezing.

Look at Cape Verde if you can cope with the longer flights

Littlebluedinosaur · 22/02/2023 18:28

Oh no really they might be too cold?

We went to Tenerife last April and in the south had sun 6 out of 7 days and were in the pool but pools can be already unheated.
In the north it was cooler, cloudier and friends had the odd rain shower.

So it can really depend on the individual year.

Littlebluedinosaur · 22/02/2023 19:17

I would really feel like we have wasted our money if it’s too cold for the children to use the pools. We can’t get away in the warmer months this year. Go this Easter or just wait it out?

Morocco ?

reluctantbrit · 22/02/2023 20:37

It really depends on your budget but could you stretch to a week Caribbean?
We went twice in the Easter holidays and it was 28-30 and everything you can ask for.

I was in Tenerife at Easter last year. The pool was heated but the weather was just okay. Low 20s and cloudy in the morning and sunbathing weather most afternoons.

However, I won't be returning at Easter again; I want more consistent sunshine.

Hurghada in Egypt?

Meredusoleil · 22/02/2023 20:47

Cyprus?

We took our DC to Tunisia a few times when they were small - fantastic value in small hotels with indoor and outdoor pools, on the beach and the staff were so friendly.

We go round Malaga at Easter, weather mid 20s so pool fine and much nicer than Canaries

Randomuser9876 · 22/02/2023 20:53

Nerja or Estepona lovely and plenty warm enough for swimming

I didn't realise it was that warm!

holygerbil · 22/02/2023 21:01

I have a place in Majorca and friends have a place in Marbella and neither of us think it's warm enough for pool swimming in April. Most pools in Spain including the islands aren't heated as it isn't energy efficient (it's also not legal in apartment blocks in some areas). It's June before you catch me in the pool. Mid 20s in April in somewhere like estepona really isn't typical.

My kids will swim april-October but they are sometimes blue when they come out...

Randomuser9876 · 22/02/2023 21:01

Think average daytime in Malaga for April is 22 but last year it was pushing 30 at Easter so we always get lots of pool days.

Randomuser9876 · 22/02/2023 21:03

But agree holygerbil that Mallorca not that hot at Easter

Give it a few more years and it will be...it barely dropped below 30 between May and October last year 😓 🥵

Randomuser9876 · 22/02/2023 21:19

I know! We were there Oct half term and was 30ish, would have been perfect but was bitten to death by tiger mosquitoes, still have the marks!

Very jealous of your house though, love mallorca

XelaM · 22/02/2023 23:27

Dubai has guaranteed hot weather in April

Littlebluedinosaur · 23/02/2023 00:56

Thanks for the replies. As lovely as the Caribbean would be it’s not in budget and I also don’t want a long flight with a toddler.

Average daily temp in Tenerife in April is between 16.5 - 23 degrees. Anecdotally we didn’t find it all that warm when we went in April a few years ago. We stayed at an expensive hotel with heated pools so the kids did swim but they were freezing when they got out so they didn’t go in nearly as much as they would have in warmer weather. It wasn’t a waste exactly but I wouldn’t go that early in the year again.

Mexico? We're doing the flight with a 13m old
